Just joined the site... Gathering very useful information on product choices and how-to's. I have a 68 camaro that i bought 17 years ago. I have a 383 roller engine 11:5, th400 tranny and a 12 bolt 4:56 diff. I was originally in the drag racing scene, but now crossed over to the fun stuff. I am in the process of a major overhaul. Complete body work, and suspension swap. Just sold some toys and have some money to work with... considering a Art Morrison c6 Gt sport front suspension , T56 Magnum tranny, DSE quadralink rear suspension (to keep my 12 bolt, since most others require a ford 9)... this weekend is my starting point... altough i can do several things myself, i could also use some help in body work and fabrication. i can also use some tips on Auto to manual conversions that will help my tranny install go much smoother. Thanks in advance.

Im in LB and do some fabrication and tig/mig welding. Im currently helping another member build a 1967 Pontiac 400. Would be interested in helping when time permits. Ck out my Silver 67 Camaro Conv doing an autocross in O.C. posted by 79-TA this weekend.

i'm in huntington beach too. My 69 camaro has mini tubs and the alston g-link rear suspension. If you are considering those mods you can take a look.

I changed my 69 to a T56 and ls, let me know if I can help. I used a set of factrory pedals and stock master from a 2000 camaro z. I also used bracket from speed and performance also replaced brake booster and master from 2000 z.

You will have to cut and raise the trans tunnel about an inch

Why?

Mike,
Are you suggesting that there is no need to raise the tunnel?

Mike,

I didn't have to raise the tunnel in my '68 Camaro with an SBC and a T56 (the car I just sold), and I didn't have to raise it in my '68 Camaro project car with an LS1 and a T56.

Mike - woouldn't that depend on a number of factors like whether a floor was replaced correctly, whose Subfr and motor mounts?

You're pretty smart w this stuff, so just a few thoughts here that came to mind...

I didn't cut mine either. LSX 6spd. If you use standard heights body mounts and the correct engine plates you shouldn't have to modifying the sheet metal.

Clearly sheet metal work that's not lined up like factory tin could cause issues, but SFAIK, none of the good aftermarket front subframes cause clearance issues. My now sold '68 was a factory sub, my current project is an aftermarket sub. No differences in clearance between the two.

When I installed my t56 into my 67 the floor tranisiton to the firewall was not lined up correctly and I needed to work the sheet metal back in place but once that was corrected the tunnel had ample clearance.

Would tunnel height be different between a factory manual vs factory automatic? Since I am converting from auto to manual I am wondering if you guys that did NOT need modification originally had a manual tranny to begin with.

There is no difference between the auto and manual drive shaft tunnel height. However, there are different factory knock out spots for different drive-line components. I used a factory auto body and stuffed an LS6, T56 and 4" carbon fiber drive shaft in. I don't have any clearance problems because I used a Ford 9" rear end which has a +-1.5" lower pinion location. Basically, your drive shaft clearance is going to be dictated by how much you lower your car and how tight you decided to locate your componets up against the under body. In addition, drive shaft clearance is also affected by rear end travel.

Thats my 3 cents

I had to raise mine because it was hitting towards the front but my engine is set back about an inch also.
