Hello all. I have been a member of several sites in hopes of gtrat advice but this site is hands down the best IMO. You guys give great advice. I have a 1968 Firebird that I bought 2 years ago. Just a shell. No motor or tans. I bought a rebuilt 455 bore ove .30 with 6x heads. My friend did the motor and it is supposed to be about 9:1 compression. I bought a 700r4 rebuilt but recently sold it because i plan on getting the tremec T56 trans in the next few weeks. Car is in the suspension shop getting a new stance. And I plan on running into a lot of problems on my way to my dream ride being a reality. I know here I can get real answers. Thanks for being so down to earth guys. Oh and almost forgot to mention I live in Northern California.

Welcome! This is a great place for advice and learning for a novice like me. I have a 68 firebird convertible that I’ve been going through, with a good restoration company, for the past 3 years. We went with Edlebrock heads for the 455, TKO 600 trans, and Moser 12 bolt rear end (thanks Frank), and subframe connectors. Car rides great! (But I’m trying to make it better…)

Thanks for the responce. Im going with a 12 bolt rear also. I know your car must be nice. That TKO has to feel great and saving you a few pasos at the pump. Do you have the hydralic clutch set up? I can not wait till I get this car on the road. I think i will keep the 6x heads because I plan on going procharger. Hopefully I can get the heads ported and still be able to run on pump gas. Im a novice also, you may can tell. Ill be asking tons of questions lol

Mechanical clutch. I like the exercise! (Just kidding. Effort is pretty mild and I like the feel.)

Thanks guys. To kev, I had a auto C5 corvette (by far my fastest car), 95 transam and 2000 WS6 (also automatics). But none of those cars felt like my first love. A 1992 Mustang LX with a paxton supercharger. I was only 16 at the time. That car felt fast. Hopefully I can get some of that feel back with the tremec trans. Im also planning on going procharger. Cant wait to feel that torque.

I never see any of these old Firebirds and I find this site and realize there are a few guys fixing them up I am glad to see. Nice project, my 68 is in way worse shape than yours. May end up using it for parts by the time I price out everything it needs, haha.
Steve, I seen those vids on V8TV, very impressive stuff!

Welcome, I too have a firebird with a few mods. If you have any questions I am sure you will find lots of help here. I would think a set of aluminum heads would be a good thing with the pro charger, better ports to start with and they dissipate heat much better so you can run more boost with out having to run higher octane fuel. Edelbrock is coming out with D ports for the pontiac or Kaufman racing has a really nice set.

I have a picture in my garage of a 53 salt flat. They look great slammed with a chopped roof. There are a few full frames could you have built for you.

I dont understand what your saying? Could you explain in a little more detail please. Thanks
