Hey guys,
I seem to be having trouble finding/deciding a good shifter for my 4l80e to go in my 73 camaro. I've seen the Lokar and the Gennie but am still looking for someone to tilt the scales on one of these or another one (if there is another one out there. I will be using Twist paddle shifter but need a good looking/functional floor shifter to go with this. Please give me your feedback on where to look and why you suggest that piece.
Also is there a pre-fabbed crossmember out there to fit a 2nd Gen camaro and a 4l80e? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
See you guys at SEMA!!

There is a company that makes prefabbed crossmembers.

As far as I know nobody yet makes one for a 2nd gen F-body. My understanding is its not hard to modify an original to work if you can do a bit of welding...or just make your own of course.

Maybe this will help a bit on the crossmember. We had to cut my TH400 crossmember and weld it up. There are a few pictures. There weren't any real measurements per say. We winged it.
As for a shifter, I reused my stock shifter with a kit from ShiftWorks. Might not be an option on the Camaro, I don't know.

I have to ask, do you actually have it in the car now? I can't imagine there is any way to do it without cutting the floorpans-a 4L80E is quite a bit bigger than a TH400. If you just bolt it to the motor in it's stock location, I don't see how you can avoid trans tunnel issues....plus, you need some clearance anyway just to keep heat out of the interior from it being so close from underneath. Ideally, you'd want to relocate the engine cradle about 2-2.5" lower to give you adequate clearance for things like cooling lines, etc. Then you'd have to alter rear susp. for proper pinion angle but I assume that's in the works anywho.

If you're speaking to me, pictures don't lie. Look at the link I posted. It wasn't a big deal to get it in the second gen TA.

Critter and all the rest who posted...
Thank you!! The pics and the notes on the install took alot of anxiety away from this project!! I am still waiting on the engine to come back from the dyno before we start the install. Its obvious that I will need to use a cable system for the shifter. Thanks again to all...I will start posting pics as we start the project...
