My brothers Camaro has always had issues with the tailights. Being that the harness was quite old and original with a few splices from unknown origins he replaced it with a new one and still has the same problem.

Basically the inner lights are brighter than the outer in such that it looks like the brake lights are always on. When you hit the brakes, the outer ones come on to match the brightness of the inner lights.

I believe the inner ones are to be tailights only correct??

Ideas, suggestions?? Were stumped.

did you check to see if the bulbs are in the right way. there is a way to force an 1157 in the wrong way. i've seen it happen before.

Exactly right--there is a low stud and a stud in the middle of the bulb---if you try hard enough, you can force them in the light fixture incorrectly. Easy way to tell---pull the offending bulbs and look at the grooves in the light fixtures---you'll see the lower stud on the buld should easily slide all the way to the bottom of the light fixture in it's respective groove--while the stud that is midway down on the bulb has it's own seperate groove going only half way into the fixture. If you've got that part right, then I would swap bulbs side to side to see if perhaps they are indeed the wrong bulbs--let us know what you find out. Hope this helps---

Also make sure the rear harness has a good ground. Sometimes a bad ground can cause similar problems.

Yup, we've flipped, flopped, switched and swapped bulbs and the ground is good.
