Installation of LEDs in VDO cockpit gauges?

I desire to put red LEDs in my VDO cockpit gauges in my Studebaker, as the car had red gauge illumination originally.

These new VDO gauges have indirect side lighting, taking a wedge type bulb.

Has anyone done this that would have LED bulb recomendations? This would save me from multiple sample bulbs to find a correct setup.

Also, the VDO vacuum gauge because of the mechanical construction has much weaker side illumination than the other electrical gauges. Has anyone overcome this with a specific LED?

Take a look at the setup on the NastyZ28 sight. Don't know if the LED's are available in red, but it certainly looks like a nice bright setup;

You need a 168 or 194 wedge base bulb, try superbrightleds.com, but a red incandescent will probably be good enough.
