18x7 all the way around with 4in backspacing. Will they sit flush or too sunken in?

These wheels will just be temp until i can afford a set of 3 piece wheels.

I think you need a minimum of a 4.5" B/S. maybe a 4.25". But the 4" will most likely hit the front fenders during a turn.

thanks so im assume a wheel with 6 or 6.5 backspacing would be tooo much?

yes. The max I think is around 4.75-5" with stock width rearend and stock leaf locations. But if you order a wheel with too much B/S then you could always space it back out with spacers.

Consider your brakes might change your B/S.

max is 5", but 4.75" is the best choice

So if i get an 18x8 wheel all the way around with 0 offset that would make 4.5in backspacing. I assume that would work out better all the way around on the 65 mustang coupe?

I also will be running shelby drop on the front with disc brakes from www.discbrakeswap.com.

Sounds like a good fit. But disc brakes sometimes change the required offset.

Yes they will fit. I ran a 17x8 with 4.75" BS, widest wheel you could fit for all 4 corners to be same size on a 65/66 Mustang. That means the forward spacing is 3.25"(opposite side of backspacing or "the rest of the wheel").

An 18x7 with 4" BS won't have any interference on the inner fender. Your forward spacing would be 3". Compared to me you'd have 0.75" more clearance on the inside of the wheel, and 0.25" more fender clearance.

With an 8" wheel its better to go 4.75" backspacing to get the fender lip clearance. 4.5" will work but you're that much closer to the fender lip

This will help you find what wheel tire combos that will work for 65/66:

I'm running a 17x9 on my 66 now, but I use fender flares, still keeping the 4.75" backspacing though.

i found some really cheap beater wheels to buy untill i save up and buy some 3 piece wheels and they are only available in 18x7 with 4in back spacing or 18x8 with 4.5in back spacing.

Thats why im trying to decide which one of those to go with. There are no other backspacing options to go with.

The 18x7 will clear better, but the 18x8 will also fit. Choose tires wisely. Personally I'd go with the 8" wides.

6 or 6.5 bs is too much but if you use spacers/adapters to bring the bs down to 4.75 or 4.5 range they will fit as long as you stay under 8" wide.

For example, 6" bs would need a 1.25-1.5" spacer/adapter, 6.5 bs would need a 1.75-2" spacer/adapter.

My 17x9 are 6.12 bs, I used a 1.5" spacer which brings me to 4.62" bs.

i went ahead and just ordered the 18x8 with 4.5 backspacing. The car came with 225/40/18s on it already. I will just reuse those till they wear out then think about getting some 3 piece wheels.

Hopefully everything will fit right it not i will figure something out. The current wheels have spacers on them right now.
