I tried doing a few searches and came up with nothing--

I noticed that keisler and other suppliers offer "offset shifter location," "perfect fit" and "stock shifter location" and so on- If I get an LS1 dropout from a Gen3 Camaro, or an LS2 dropout from a new GTO, does this put the shifter in an awkward position?

Thanks

There are so many variables that control that.

I went through all this same stuff a couple years ago whith my 67 camaro. I wanted the shifter in the stock hole and did not want to move my console back! I thought about just taking the console out....but decided not to...I like my original guage package as well.

The F Body and GTO T56 put the shifter in the same spot. Which is a few inches further back than original....I think like 4 inches. So you have to cut a new hole in the tunnel (assuming you have a stock hole there now) If your not going to run the stock console then no biggie.

I have been getting some T56 trans built with a combination of parts that puts it REAL close to the stock hole. Then you can buy a offset shifter that puts it right in the stock hole. The trans and shifter is WAY cheaper than any of these all inclusive packages from the companys you listed above. I replied to your PM a few minutes ago...with my number, give me a call and I will tell you about this in detail, I have had this trans built for myself and other members and everyone is 100% happy. I think they are perfect for the first gen camaro!
