Is that the '69 Camaro that Johnson's Rod Shop built for Bob Johnson of Barrett/Jackson Car Search fame? What part of Long Island do you guys meet? Is it off the Southern State P/W or LIE? I'd like to come out one Sunday. Thanks - Jack

Holy Crap! I know my left leg will probably get sore sitting in traffic, but I'll take my car across the GWB to see some of those things in person!

Love that black camaro.Rims are awesome on that car. Heres my sunday photo, local show, got rained on.
Wish i had a dollar for everyone that asked if i was gonna get rims for the camaro.
One guy said my green camaro reminded him of the orange cheevelle he had in high school.
One kid asked me if my car was the bad guys car on starsky and hutch
That made my day!

Can someone post an exact address so I can get directions? And is there an entry fee like a show, or is it just a free cruise-in?

Steve Chryssos
05-16-2005, 11:41 AM
Doesn;t really have an address since its just what remains of the old Oak Beach Inn. Google search Captree State Park. That'll get you close. Then follow the smell of racing fuel. I love the smell of CAM2 in the morning.

Captree State Park is closest location here is the map (http://www.oprhp.state.ny.us/hpimaging/nysp/PrxResults.aspx?&GAD2=&GAD3=&IC=40.652:-73.264:32:Captree+State+Park&uTOP=Captree+State+Park&CT=40.652:-73.264:8.90:6.67)

Thanks for the info Steve. Looks like about an hour drive for me, not bad at all. Is anyone heading there from the western end of LI that I could follow out there one Sunday? I'd be coming in across the GWB, so if someone is close by that would be cool.

It's an early morning thing, so it's probably better if you come out the night before, crash at my place, hit the get-together at 8AM then head home Sunday afternoon. Email me for the address. ROAD TRIP!!

Sounds good. It's about 35-40 miles.

Directions from points west. GW Bridge.

-GW Bridge to Cross Bronx Expressway (yuk!)
-To Whitestone Bridge or Throgs Neck Bridge
-To Cross Island Parkway
-To Southern State Parkway. Can also take Long Island Expressway
-To Sagtikos Parkway South towards Robert Moses Causeway
Sagtikos is exit 53 off LIE or 41 off Southern State
-Over the big bridge (I almost bought it hard on this bridge last year on the V-Rod)
-Over smaller draw bridge
-Ocean Parkway west
-Less than a mile up you will see parking lot with lots of activity on your left. Hot Rods, cool bikes--and the usual police presence. There's no building or other landmark, so you are basically looking for a busy parking lot.
-Bang a U-ey and your there.

if the weathers good I am in. I take 287 to 95 to the throgs neck, I should get there about 9 am. Is there someplace nearby to grab food or should I eat before i leave?

Steve Chryssos
05-21-2005, 06:56 AM
I sent you both my cell number in case you get lost or have any problems. No there isn't really a place to eat at the site. Maybe a roach coach and port-A-crapper.
We can find a diner afterwards. If the weather is good, parking is tight so get there as early as possible.

Steve, I got your message, thanks! I will forward you my cell # as well in case you have a change of plans. So far it just seems like it'll be a mix of sun and clouds tomorrow; the rain should stay away. I'll be on the road by about 7AM or so. The car is clean and gassed up. If anyone else from the Forum shows up, just look for me, I'm 5'3" and probably have the only Monte SS there with Jersey plates. ;)

I'm up too; gonna hop in the shower and see how things look when I'm ready to go. It's just cloudy on this side of the GW, so I'll probably head over. I'm in the mood for a drive. Steve, are you still heading out?

Vanzuuk, an early congrats to you for next weekend! Marriage is a blessing (and can be a curse too - LOL!).

Edit: Talked to Steve C. on the phone, decided to hold off for next weekend. Maybe I'll do some work today on the car instead.

I've heard that they get a few hundred cars up there when the weather is nice. I'm about 40 minutes or so from Bear Mt, so I'd be up for a meet sometime.

Yeah. Jim Mulvey and I waited out the early morning rain, and then took my car out to get breakfast. Started to pour again just as we were heading for a few twisty roads. Took it back out later for lunch with the Mrs. The rain kept coming and going, but I had a big time anyhow.

Them Nittos work pretty good in the rain!! :drive2:

The one thing i will miss with this car is drifting around in the rain and snow. The camaro i had years ago was more driver than show car and i use to get it sideways a lot. I will probably take it out in the wet once in a while but I dont want to watch another camaro rust away! Maybe it will rain at an autocross and i can have fun in safety.

I think I have to pass for 5/29. I would love to drive over, but I really need to get some detail work done on the car. Need to replace the steering shaft, paint the calipers and clean the wheels, change the hood hinges, and install driver door weatherstripping. Maybe it'll be done for 6/4!
