Does it have vacum advance?

I had a feeling you might chime in here, maybe you can help.
It does NOT have vacuum advance. I covered the carb and the motor died so it shouldn't have a vacuum leak. IT has an HP950 on it, and they have big ole holes drilled in all the throttle plates. It also has 4 corner idle which i am not accustomed too. I noticed If i go to each corner seperately and turn the mixture screw in, the car doesn't stumble, in fact the idle goes up a little? However I turned the back driver side screw all the way in and then moved to the driver side front screw, and started turning it all the way in and it then started to stumble. Also my plugs are really sooty, so it is running to rich, i also get some smoke out the back(looks white?) The carb is brand new and box stock. Timing is 13-14 initial and about 36-38 at 3000 rpm. Definetly need to play with the carb. Also with this cam i only get 7" of vacuum at about 950 rpm, which is where i have it idling.

Wow cody,

sounds freakin rad. I can't wait to see it on the road! Regarding your carb issues...Did you try zapping your p-ram, or ctrl+open-apple+ reboot?

:-)

I hate you...after 10min of DL it won't play. Nice picture tho...too bad your an a$$hole...
The holes in your plates are causing your idle to search which in turn activates your mechanical advance. I believe you have to close some of them holes up. You can use duct tape to temperarily close off the rears first. They are too large for you car. I had a similar problem with my 830HP. Thats why I got it for $200. He couldn't get it to tune right. I just replaced the blades and it was perfect.

also swap out that 6.5 PV with a 5.0 or 5.5

how does the idle have anything to do with the mechanical advance? Hey try viewing it again, worked perfect for me everytime! This is almost a huge cam so i think the holes might be working for me, i only have 7" of vacuum that is what the holes are for

see...a$$hole... you asked I answered and you argue...jacka$$...Try a mech advance lockout and see if it does anything...should be in your 7 kit...you do have the kit right?

I've seen bigger cams run only needing 2 1/8" holes in the fronts...these holes are what 3/16" and you have 4 of them. Get it to a real tuner and quit messing around...expert.

Cody, The reason I asked about vacuum advance, is quite often the Vacuum advance will hold the timing up which will make it rev. You could put a timing light on it and see if the timing is up a lot when it is idling high. In other words, say it is 14 degrees at 800 and 36 at 3000, which is pretty close to where it should be with mechanical advance. If you rev it and it drops to 1500RPMs, and the advance is north of 20, it may be so loose inside the distributor it is keeping the advance up.
Also, if you are getting no reaction from the idle mixture screws, and it is running rich, you are probably idling off the jets instead of the idle circuit. Do me a favor and see how far the throttle blades are closing. The holes are actually to bleed air with the blades closed. A Holley comes off the idle circuit quickly as the blades open. If the blades are open to far, it will block the idle circuit and try to run off the jets, causing all your issues. Try starting from scratch, with the car off, and see if you can get a turn out of the idle screw closing the blades, then set the 4 corners to 1 1/2 turns. You will be surprised. If you try to do it with the car running, there is a point where it seems like it will not run right at the moment you block the idle circuit and switch to the jets, but once you get under the idle circuit it is a whole new world.

The car looks great!!!!! I love the stance. How far are the rockers from the ground?
