I’m in the market for a little video camera to mount in my car or outside on my windshield.
When I was at the Motor State Challenge, I noticed ALLOT of the cars had mounted video cameras. At the time, I didn’t think to look at brands and ask questions.
What cameras do you guys like, which don’t you like?
What options?
Which mounts work, which don’t?
I'm thinking something with an SD card
Thanks!

I've been using a GoPro HD. It came with a suction mount and I usually shoot with it on the windshield looking out. The audio is not the best so I wish it supported an external mic but it doesn't.
I also have a Kodak Zi8 (like a Flip HD) that I stick on the outside of the car to get other angles.

I use the ContourHD 1080p, with it mounted to the back of my seat looking over my right shoulder. It gives me a little more useful information than when it's suction cupped to the windshield. The only negative though is that it's a bit difficult to get the lighting balance perfect between looking through the windshield and showing the interior of the car. I found its interface a little easier to use "on the fly" than the GoPro but the GoPro seems a bit more rugged and the lens has a wider angle.
I use a separate voice recorder to capture audio. Olympus DS-40

I bought a GoPro for the Midwest Muscle Car Challnge and was pretty Pleased with it overall. There are a few things that would make it much nicer tho. An external mic to hear the engine and a stinkin remote to turn it on. You loose several minutes of time every run while you trun it on, then have to get in the car and get belted up and wait in line to start.
But for the money, it is good.
