AN INTERESTING FACT ABOUT AUGUST 2010.

This August has

5 Sundays,

5 Mondays,

5 Tuesdays,

.....all in one month.
It only happens once every 823 years.
I probably will miss it next time

And... on August 27th at 12:30 in the morning, Mars will be visible in the sky, and nearly 1/4 the size of the Moon.

Maybe it's the 5 Tuesdays... :)

Contrary to what you've been hearing on the internet this is not a rare occurrence, and it certainly happens more often than once every 823 years.

This is part of a cycle: In August 2009, there were five Saturdays, five Sundays and five Mondays. August 2010 will have five Mondays, five Tuesdays and five Wednesdays.

The next time we get five Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays in August will be August 2021. Then it will happen again in 2027, and then again 2032.

If you have windows Operating system double click on the time keeper on you screen and bump up the Year and check it out

2012 you get WTF 5 times in Aug...<----ROFLMBO, now we will have an excuse to say WTF in 2012

2013 you get TFS 5 times in Aug


...and so on until it repeats like Marshall pointed out.

It's interesting how one's mind works. I had fleeting reservations about both "facts" (823 years, big Mars).

I thought, "hey, there's 31 days in August, so that means there will be 3 five weekdays in the month, and why would it be any different than say, October?". But I never thought beyond that, and assumed somehow the 823 years must be true. Very bad critical thinking on my part.

On the Mars thing, I thought, "why would Mars get markedly larger on one particular night? Wouldn't it get gradually bigger over time?" But I never thought beyond that, and I passed on an urban legend. Bad form again.

My most humble apologies. I'll do better. :)

There are several months where you will have 2 of the same day 5 times during a single month, but when I read the email and it spoke of 3 days repeating 5 times in a single month...I just knew it must have been one of those rare cycles that only happens every so often, and I didn't bother "fact checking"....my bad
