I am looking to upgrade my '67 El Camino to a short ratio power steering box. Currently, it has no power steering. I'm wondering what I need to drive the power steering pump. I currently have a single grove crankshaft pulley that is driving the water pump/fan and alternator. I am not considering a serpentine system right now, as I expect I'll replace this motor in a year or two. I want to get the upgrade done cheaply and easily for now.

Do I just need to replace the crankshaft pulley with a 2-grove pulley and drive the power steering pump off the 2nd grove, or is the solution more complicated than that?

I'm converting my Cutlass 2 PS and I'm have a 2 groove pulley. The first one drives the alternator and the second (inner) one will drive my new PS pump. Having said that, I'm running a saginaw TC pump and am having the bracket fab'd for me since I can't buy one off the shelf.

Ok, so I have a power steering pump now, and I have a two groove pulley installed on the crank. The problem I have is that my crank pulley, water pump, and alternator are all driven off the inner pulley groove. I'm assuming that I can't drive the all the accessories of a single belt that wraps around all four pulleys along the inner groove, so I'm not sure what to do next.

Should I put two grove pulleys on the alternator and water pump and drive those off the outer groove and the PS pump off the inner grove? Can I drive the PS pump off the outer groove from the crank pulley, sticking out in front of the other belt?

Thanks for any help!

Rod - I think you've got it. In your second pic ("pre 1969 cars short waterpump") the 327 w/ PS layout seems to match exactly what I need. Driving the alternator and water pump out of the inner groove of the crank pulley, and driving just the PS pump out of the outer groove.

Thanks for the help.
