Hi,
I am working on a rear disc brake conversion project and tossing up the idea of having it CNC in some sort of aluminum.

So the first question is:
What would the best choice of aluminum be for something that will hold the caliper to the axle?

Next question is:
Whats the average going shop hour rate for CNC work, or how do they bill a customer?

Im loading up Inventor now, had to reformat this baby a few weeks ago. after putting it in 3d... I might keep the main e-brake adapter in 5/8 steel unless its cheaper to have it CNC'd out of aluminum.
For pictures sake, how much do you think it would cost to have something like this CNC'd:

6061/7075/2024 aluminum.
Most charge 1 time programming fee+ x dollars per part based on qty.

I'm guessing 6061-T6 would be good material. This place seems reasonable for one offs. http://www.emachineshop.com/ You can get the pricing online.

emachineshop is usually pricey. If you want, shoot me an email with the Inventor file(s) (I use Inventor), and I can talk with my machinists and likely have it made much cheaper than emachineshop or any other's you'll find.

Steel is usually very expensive to machine, since it's so hard on the equipment and will kill a cutting bit quick. 6061 is going to be the cheapest, with 7075 just a little more expensive.

I agree with 6061-T6. Machine time looks short and only one setup. Dont need to flip the part over.

I would guestimate about 4 hours for the cut time. Most places will charge a minimum of $250 but that includes setup and a certain amount of time on the machine, guessing 2 hours or so.
