Crate Engine vs Supercharged

Hello,

First of all, this is a small briefing about me and my project. I’m Alex, at this moment I’m living in Brazil, and my project is a 1995 Mustang . The objective is; beat European and Japanese sportcars in a road course, or in track days. I know that this is a very tuff job, and this is the reason for the project name: Supernatural.
Why a 1995 Mustang? I have a limited budget, and there are several parts available to upgrade for suspension and engine.

I had some experience with turbo engines, but for this project in particular the word is RELIABLE. I almost decided about a Kenne Bell (twin screw) supercharger using Ethanol, and my main concern is with the 302OEM block which is good until 400-450rwhp. :fingersx:

Checking the Ford Racing catalog I saw the SBF 347 Boss crate engine with 450hp, :idea: and now I’m very tempted with the possibilities (simplicity, ready to upgrade, etc )of using a crate engine and leave the supercharger idea for the next years (if needed).

Could anyone advice?

I would tend to push you towards a built motor rather than a supercharger.
The Ford factory bottom ends just aren't that strong.

In general, stay away from the 347, at the bottom of the stroke, the rod swings quite wide and causes the piston to rock.
Give up a little stroke, and go with a 331
