I found my 67RS in January were it had sat for 20 years. It took a lot of work to get it mechanically sound in time for summer. The paint is burnt, the bumpers are a pitted, the rockers are shot, and the powerglide/2.90 peg leg isn't going to win any races but...

screwing the tags on and cruising down the road yesterday, I was in the coolest car on the planet. I was driving the car that I've dreamed of since I was 12. That feeling has got to be what it's all about. Just wanted to share it with a bunch folks who probably know what I'm talking about.

Hey Wendell, congrats on the drive bud. I kinda know what you're talking about. I picked up my dream last Saturday (69 Camaro big block) and man is it ugly, and beautiful at the same time. I got it in the garage, stuck a bucket in front of the steering wheel (no seats) and went vroom vroom. Granted my wife thinks I'm nuts now but dude, for a second there I felt like the coolest dude in school!

Congrats Wendell on seeing the big picture. Some times we get so bogged down with resto, modifications etc..... that we forget that driving the car is what it is all about. Spinning a wheel every once in a while might get some others here fired up about getting back on their projects.....

i've been working on my 65 chevelle ss for twelve years,had two frames done,and i still dont see the end in sight.

but i am very much looking forward to 'that drive.' :drive:

Thats exactly the thing i am gonne do this summer.I have always had projects and everytime they have been big and time has gone and why not take the time to do EVERYTHING when the car is apart.

Well thats not gonna happen this time.I will drive my 73 Formula with rustholes and bad paint this summer and having fun.After all this is a hobby,and i will have fun taking the car to everywhere without risking something.

My 70 Nova SS has green duct tape over the holes on the roof, It's has a BB runs 12's maybe 11's but I like driving it put a smile on my face, make lots of noise, but I like driving it, Steve

Many many of us in here can relate to this. Ive seen several members in here including myself drive around with no doors, or a front clip and barely a recognizable car. Heck I just drove the Mustang up and down the driveway about a month ago and it didnt have any seats or a floor board. I used a creeper as the seat and set it from the rocker to the trans tunnel. :lmao:
So yeah I know the feeling and I bet your smile couldn't be wiped off for a lonnnnnng time. :)

Dude i can relate!!
I bought my 73' Nova 3 years ago, didnt run, had an orange paint job done about 25 years ago, had a few little primer spots and had a drive train that didnt drive, but it already had a roll bar and fuel cell in it. 4" cowl hood, my neighbor had it and it was his street strip car, then he yanked the drivetrain and threw it in a 63 chevy II. I used to sit in it and dream about hauling ass and rowing gears.....and now i get to haul ass and row gears where ever i want!!! Even thought the car still looks kinda cruddy, its fast and fun, cruisable and raceable and thats what counts to me. I just finished my interior, im going to change cams, and then its time to save for a paint job.
I think the only thing better than driving your car for the first time is driving your car when you get your 1st motor done and running.
