Hello all, i have a 70 nova that currently has non-power drum brakes on all for corners. i've decided to get the z06 brake calipers from Kore3. however, i'm fuzzy on the whole hub thing. i know right now the car has drum spindles. i plan on buying a set stock height spindles from ss396.com for disk brake set up. my question is when it comes to the hub will i be able to run just a stock hub on these or do i need to buy special hubs to fit the rotors. if so what kind? any who has done this conversion please chime in. also would love to hear from experts.

you can use the stock hub but it will need to be machined down. You will need the brackets to make them work.

Do a search its been covered many times.

Use the drum spindles and hubs you already have. Or you can upgrade to stronger aftermarket ones. Just machine the OD of the hub down to fit inside the rotor hat.

so 1badchevelle so i can just the stock z06 rotors then on these then? also i know kore3 sales the brackets. thanks man

and ls1nova you're saying i can use the stock spindles and just hub machined to fit inside the rotor.

IMHO, I'd advise against the drum hubs, they are just way too thin to handle the force required. Leverage force generated by the larger rotors and bigger wheels put alot of stress on the hub. I'd invest in the KORE hubs. Machining the stock rotors down is also a better option.

Novalt1, Mr Quick nailed on the head. Call Tobin at Kore3, and order their hubs. Actually you should have ordered their hole kit. It is a perfect fit too.

Ok so I can go with an aftermarket stock height disc spindle and Jus get the Kore 3 big brake hub and I should be good to go then? Is that correct?

Not worth it really. Save the money from buying another spindle, and use the stock drum spindle.

Use that $$$ for the kit from Kore3.

I have the 72 nova, all drum, and I am using the drum spindle with the Kore3 brake setup for a C6 Z51 set.

Sparta so u have c6 calipers? Are u using the same brackets as the c5 or are the different? And u Jus had a different hub pressed on is that correct? Same hub from Kore3?

The C5 and C6 brake components are interchangeable, so as long as your wheels can fit them, you could opt to run everything from the base level C5/C6 components all the way up to the ZR1 carbon/ceramics if you prefer.

If you have drum spindles that are in good condition, we typically suggest running those since they have the least value in the used part market. Sourcing "disc" spindles in not necessary as our kits are designed to accommodate both variations of the drum spindles in addition to the disc spindles. If you have disc spindles, there isn't any benefit that I can think of to sourcing drum spindles.

As for the hubs, they're not pressed onto anything. The hubs slide onto the spindles and are held in place with the spindle nuts. The rotors then slip onto the hubs and are sandwiched between the hub and the wheel. There have been a few high-profile OE & OE reproduction hub failures in the recent past, hence some of the valid concerns and sentiments above. The fact that most OE hubs are 40+ years old and have unknown miles on them should at least make everyone give their OE hubs a really good inspection prior to asking more from them with bigger brakes, wheels, tires, HP, etc.

Tobin sir you are the man. So in essence I can keep my current spindles and Jus get the hub kit and basically decide if I want c5z06 or c6z51 brakes. do u guys offer any z51 c6 calipers kits?

We offer everything from the base level C5/C6 kit all the way up to the ZR1 carbon/ceramics. We can mix and match C5 and C6 components to best suit your performance needs and budget, although they're all very budget friendly IMHO. For your reference, I've listed a brief summary of the "standard" Corvette applications that are compatible with our kits as well as our "Hybrid" front kit which is not a standard Corvette configuration.

1997-2004 C5(Z06) & 2005+ Base Corvettes: 2/1-piston floating PBR calipers, 325 x 32mm [12.8 x 1.26] front and 305 x 26mm [12.0 x 1.02] rear rotors.

2005-2009 C6 Z51 Corvette: 2/1-piston floating PBR calipers, 340 x 32mm [13.4 x 1.26] front and 330 x 26mm [13.0 x 1.02] rear rotors**.

2010+ C6 Grand Sport: Replaces Z51 performance package and basically has the same brakes as the C6 Z06 (see below) but with silver calipers instead of red.

2006+ C6 Z06 Corvette: 6/4-piston monoblock PBR M-series calipers, 355 x 32mm [14.0 x 1.26] front and 340 x 26mm [13.4 x 1.02] rear rotors**.

**Note: The OE C6 Z51 and Z06 rotors are drilled and available as left hand parts only and used on both sides of the vehicle.

2009 C6 ZR1 Corvette: 6/4-piston Brembos with 390mm/380mm ceramic rotors and carbon pads with twice the pad contact area of the C6 Z06 calipers. As a side note, the hydraulics/ABS/TC on the ZR1 are supplied by Bosch versus Delphi for all of the other Corvette models.

KORE3 Hybrid C5/C6x355 Front Kits: Base level 2-piston floating caliper paired with the 355mm C6 Z06 front rotor. The additional rotor mass equals lower operating temperatures while the 2-piston caliper offers more wheel fitment options.

so...if you hade the c6 calipers and brackets, you say the Z06 rotor works with them, that goes for the rears as well?
