straight plug wires hit the headers,

90 degrees won't fit, the fronts are too long,
and the rears were so short, they had to be turned straight up,
so that the boot layed on the header flange, and melted.

i sent several emails back & forth to MSD, was gonna run a full MSD setup, pro billet dizzy.

but they DO NOT make a 115/135 degree boot on their plug wires.

the MSD set i already ruined was like $70 or so.

Accel makes some sets, but it is not clear if they are all 135 degrees, or just some of them.

what to do?

basically, I have to buy another set of MSD wires, or buy bulk wire, and make my own ends, per MSD Tech:

We offer bulk wire in 6 foot PN 34039 (Red) PN 34039 (black) or a 25 foot roll PN 34019 (red), PN 34013 (black).

Since you have the mini-crimper, you can simply purchase the boots/terminals you need and configure your own wires.

PN 3301 Straight/Multi-angle boots and terminals and change the ends of those wires. That part number product comes 2 per card, you will need 4 cards. The boots are bendable to 45 degrees and will hold that shape.

You can also use PN 8853. These are 115degree Pro Race high temp boots. These come 8 per and will also have to be installed by you the end user.

The 90 degree4 boots/terminals for the distributor cap side will either be:

PN 3320, HEI style tower (looks like a spark plug end) 2 per card.

I have had lots of problems with plug wires on my big block. When I had stock heads I ended up running the wires under the headers with 90 deg. boots. When I went to aftermarket heads that didn't work any more. I ended up using straight plug wires with those fireproof boots. It works ok but I never liked the look of the boots so I am thinking of trying some accel shorty plugs and see if this helps.

well, that's what I asked MSD, how can you NOT have the correct boot angle to put MSD wires on a BBC?

LMK the PN of the Accel shorty plugs.

what PN / setup did you use to run the plug wires under the headers?

with the MSD set I bought, the rear wires were too short to even do that, but the fronts were wayyyy to long.

basically, that is what making a set of 135 degree MSD wires will cost you.

some manufacturer has to have a set of $50~$75 ready made 135 degree wires.

you can see my wires on here:

it had ACCEL wires on it, but they were shot,
so i bought the MSD's, "thinking" they would work.

one of them burnt up, so i now i have to buy another set.

and i don't want to keep experimenting.

thanks guys.

I used accel 300+ wires on mine and use a combination of straights and 90's...when I bought the wires (universal cut to fits with 90 degree ends) I just bought a set of the straight replacement ends and used the straights where I needed to...they also make a multiangle set that you just bend to what you need...haven't used them though

I had this same problem and ruined quite a few plug wires. I ended up buying the crimper and made my own plug wires. Some were straight, some 90 degree and some around 135. I was young so it didnt look very pretty but atleast they lasted after that

I had same issue with Dart pro-1 heads on the 540. I did have to dimple the header tube next to the Power Steering. These are the only wires that work for me.
