Any shows or cruise nights near Santa Cruz or Monterey this week? I'd like to check out some California classics this week while on vacation.

Yes. Thursday afternoon at Baja Cantina in Carmel about three miles down Carmel Valley Road off of Hwy 1. The food's great and there's usually some cool cars there that night. Baja's close to Quail Lodge.

There's also a cool car store (memorabilia and stuff) off of Rio Rd also in Carmel.

I was just going to recommend Baja. Pat and Joe are the greatest. I used to cruise there every week when I was going to school at DLI. My best friend John lives out there in the Valley, orange 65 Mustang coupe with the 351C, taught me everything I know about these old Fords. Yup, about 3 miles down Carmel Valley Rd on the right. You'll see the big red Mobilgas Pegasis through the trees on the roof of the building, otherwise it's easy to zoom right past the parking lot.

Oh, if you're up for a nice couple mile corner carving, farther into the Valley is Los Larales grade, goes over the hills toward Laguna Seca. Fun drive.

Not sure when it is anymore, but down in Seaside they close of Broadway St and have a cruise-in once a month. I think it was the first Friday of the month?

That Seaside show was the Broadway show and it's been moved to Alvarado on either a Thursday or Friday of each month.

The little shop at the mouth of the valley is Woodie's. It's the best and love the car stuff they have for sale.

So much to do and see on the Monterey Peninsula. We'll be at Baja this Thursday with another member ...

Makes sense they moved the Broadway show to Alvarado, after looking at all the cars there are plenty of places to browse, eat and shop. On Broadway we always ate at the Mexican shop but other than that there were the car dealerships through the alley, or the hardware store o Broadway.
Is the State theater still in business?

Places to eat:
Companos Sandwich shop
Baldamieros had the best burritos
Petras, (Mediterranean)

Was it Big Bear Lodge at the mouth Carmel Valley Rd? Farther down is the running iron, that deep into the Valley there isn't much to choose from but everything is quality. Sue and Mahesh own the grocery store out there.

I've eaten at that same Mexican place and it was pretty good and authentic. The State is still there but hosts concerts and an occasional movie.

At the mouth of Carmel Valley, the Black Bear Diner was a local fave but closed their doors over a year ago. It's a small chain who's menu listings will feed a small army. Great home cooking and good value for the almighty $$$. And yes, the Running Iron is still there and has the same grizzled cowgirl waitress. She's just as ornery as ever. Remember the boots that were nailed to the ceiling and walls?? They're still there as well.

Carmel Valley Village has some newer restaurants too. You must mean Kasey's for the small grocery store. Rosie's Cracker Barrel is now an art gallery.

Man, this is bringing back old times and keep the questions coming. Hope I can provide answers.

Cheers,

One last idea - a large number of cars (180-200) show up every Weds in Santa Clara at the Boston Market on El Camino, starting at 4pm till about 8. I plan on going, will be there with the '69 Firebird.

Please check out the Monterey Bay Aquarium (http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/) if you have enough time. It's really worth...

And maybe you wanna check out Dodi Auto Sales (http://www.dodiauto.com), they have some Camaros there and i'm interested in the yellow '67. But i guess they don't like e-mail... or they think i'm not serious cuz i live in Germany...

We had dinner at Baja cantina tonight and checked out the cars. Until tonight I can't claim that I've seen a newer Ferrari parked next to a 50s Dodge pick up.

Should have found each other as we were at Baja as well. Some nice cars were there but not the usual huge crowd. We'll see that next week for the Monterey Historics ...
