Sorry but how can I determine if my flywheel has 153 teeth or 168 besides counting every tooth on it. I don't know what flywheel is on there, but the stock starter I had worked on it. My engine is a 400 sbc. I tried asking the people a summitracing but the guy said to count each tooth...

the diameter is a way to tell the difference. can't remember the sizes but I will look them up at work today.

If you have a stock setup you can tell by the bellhousing. The 153 is on the left and the 168 is on the right.

what's the most common flywheel? i talked to my brother earlier and asked him if he knew since he got the replacement starter. he said they didn't even ask him the number of teeth on the flywheel...

also it seems like the CSR ultra lite starter caters to both? is that possible? the same part number CSI-100U is used for one that says 153 OR 168.

14.13 diameter is a 168 tooth
12.85 diameter is a 153 tooth

whew, thanks for the measurements. i tried getting the full diameter on the flywheel but it's still on the car. but it was getting over 14 inches so i'm sure it's a 168 tooth. what are the differences between these flywheels? 153 as opposed to 168? is one usually for trucks or cars, heavy duty or not... ?
