If you like great cars you do. :smoke:
This is basically our GT500 fighter. But I concur with what others have said. For $2500 you can mod a current SS and get well over 500 horsepower.

I've driven base models, and SS, my 73 cutlass rides nicer and might weight less, my old 05 impala handled better. I'm sick of car companies trying to half ass cars and cover too many bases with one vehicle, so I'm letting my money do my talking and not buying one.
IMHO, they need to be lighter and cheaper. I will give them credit for making it simple relative to higher end sports cars, but still, if you want to build a pony car, build a pony car, not a touring car with a big engine and call it a pony car.

Never going to happen on this platform. They're this heavy because of Gov regulated safety standards and requested features. If you pull features it will likely amount to decreased sales and higher per unit cost.
Engineering it to be lighter would also add to unit cost (Think purpose built components, exotic materials)
I doubt GM engineered it to be heavy on purpose.

I think it looks great. What kind of H.P. do you think it will have? Probably priced in the 40's? Do you think the Vettes will be getting a boost in horsepower in 2012 too?

I certainly agree that it's not going to happen with the current platform, however Ford did manage to bring the 2011 Mustang in at around 350-400lbs lighter than the Camaro, so it is possible.

You have to remember that the 2010 camaro is basically a product of the current Mustang. Up until the Mustang's initial unvieling at the 2004 North American International Auto Show, GM was not interested in bringing back the Camaro. We all knew this at GM since it had been kicked around for years but to no avail from upper management. Enter the 2005 Mustang. The car created so much buzz the we really had no choice but to research bringing back the car to compete. So an architecture was chosen (Zeta) and the process began.
Is the car perfect? No. It's heavy for what it wants to be (again, a product of the car's Zeta architecture). Also, the sight-lines could be better and the belt line could stand to be a little lower. But aside from those two things I really think the 5th gen is one for the ages. Maybe your tastes are a bit more refined then mine but I've driven the car a bunch of times and it truly looks and feels like a muscle car to me.
We will be better prepared however for the 6th gen and I can almost guarantee it will be off a lighter architecture.

That's what I hear, and that, I am excited for. The looks aren't my favorite, but I don't dislike them, except for the tail lights, just pick a shape an stick to it, and I wholly understand the US safetly standards issue, the ford fiesta is one of the best examples of that to date, but when I look at a $50K 500hp camaro and a $60K Corvette, I have to wonder how much the actual manufacturing cost difference is between the two, and wonder why more couldn't be done to lighten it.
