Problem installing QA1 shocks/spring

Ok, so i have a 69 Camaro that I am having modified into a PT car. Mechanic is having troubles installing the QA1 shock on the 69 camaro frame. He's having problem fitting the top of spring over the stock frame groove. it should fit nice an snug over the groove where the top of spring is suppose to sit. Instead, the top of spring cannot fit over the groove because the top of spring is too small in diameter. When installing these shocks/springs should the frame be cut and modified so the springs fit over the circular metal groove? or is there a larger diameter QA1 spring that fits nice and snug? any help would be much appreciated

I just installed a QA12 Coil over spring and shock setup in my 69 Firebird and the spring fit just fine. I did have to bolt the shock to the lower control arm and use the a-arm to compress the spring just a little bit to get enough threads to show through the upper shock bushing to put the nut on.
