View Full Version : Naming my car...

I'm about to start the build of my 67 camaro (I'll post up the build info once I get closer). Anyway I've come up with a name for my car, but don't know if anyone already has that name for there car. What is the rules on this? I don't want to name my car and someone else already has there car named the same name. The name I've come up with is "Instigator". I decided to name it this for 2 reasons. First when I was in high school I used to street race the car and was always instigating a race. Second, I'm constantly asked to help others to plan out their build of there cars. So basically I instigate them to build it one way or another.
Anyway just didn't want to name my car this if someone else has their car named the same.
Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott. I understand what your saying. It just doesn't seem cool to do that. To me it's not the same as someone telling me I can't paint my car blue because their car is blue. Or maybe building a clone might be a bad thing, etc.
Worst case you might upset a couple of people??? Maybe???
You seem to be a man of good conscience and that is a good thing.
By the way, there is a car named instigator. Copy and paste the site below. Good luck.

This is the only picture I have uploaded of the car right now. I'll get some others shots before I start on it.

Would I be a ***** if I went ahead and named my car Instigator seeing how that other car isn't a pro-touring car and from the looks of it, it never sees daylight. What do you guys think?
If ya'll think that would be a bad idea, then what would you suggest? And elite, thanks for the suggestion, but I think that would be to plain.

Its your car, name it what you want! If someone doesn't like it, too bad.

It seems pointless to me unless you're building something on a level of Ring Brothers,RadRides,Foose, something that's not run of the mill and built with off the shelf parts, but that's just me, it's your car,so name it whatever you like

I'm on the same boat. I believe project names are only useful for marketing purposes (sponsorships, media exposure, etc).

They're good for separating your car from others that may look similar. If I were building a PT First Gen Camaro, I'd want that just to differentiate mine. But, I'm a media whore too, so there ya go.
Oh- and if there's another car out there with the name you've chosen, you can tweak it a bit to be more unique..as long as it sounds cool.
There won't be another "Malitude". Good name. Great car.
"Instigator" isn't bad...but "Winstigator" is more unique.
your most likely never going to run into the guy on the road.. but if you it bothers you that theres already one out just spell it different.. instig8r

Mine have all kinds of names. The name changes depending on how well they are making me happy at the moment.

LOL, can you explain how a name you gave to your car will differentiate it from a car that in appearance looks like a twin of your car? Name it all you want, if two cars look nearly identical,no one would care who or how it's named, because they both look the same.
As I mentioned before,it will only makes sense if you're building a unique car with a lot of custom made parts, with a lot of custom touches that will set the car apart from others in the crowd.

I never understood it either, but I will give my project a "name" for the purpose of differentiating the build thread from other build threads. I have missed some awesome builds because the thread author didn't name it something that was memorable or something that stood out. Will I call it that on a daily basis, no. But it should help me find the thread when I hit the forums.

Taken. I already used that name for my Ford Windstar build.
Maybe go with Rex?
Personally I agree with the ones that say, unless your a professional looking for sponsers or media coverage, naming your car is over the top.

I used to jokingly refer to whichever of my hot rods I happen to be driving as "My Turd".
It was especially fitting when I had a brown 72 Monte Carlo.
I think I need to check with Schwartz before I can do it in the future.:hand:

Thanks for all the replies guys. I do build allot of drag cars and have been migrating towards the PT scene. This car probably will not be built to the level of a Foose or RadRides car, cause I plan on driving it and beating on it. But for the more local scene in my area, the car will be a stand out. So naming the car will draw attention to me and my shop.
So Instigator it is.

Build it and name it along the way or when it is done and takes on its own personality. Just a suggestion, of course.
I name my cars when they earn it in some way. Sometimes it is not a repeatable name and sometimes it is just a simple one like "Betty" (BamBaLam).

Sorry, you can't do it. My car is already instigator.
Just kidding. ;)
