Thanks, you would be suprised how many people I see taking pictures by those reels. I just stuck all those outside so they are still clean looking. Ive had bikers stop by, imports, classics, you name it. They are cool for pictures!

I have a 4 wheel disc brake kit for it, 13" front and 12" rear. Will swap in either a 383 or a 454. Repaint, shave a few things stake pockets, 3rd brake light, roof line, pass door lock, etc etc.. And I will be changing the interior to black and adding alot of stock chrome trim back on the truck. Oh and those big dumbo mirrors will be replaced with the square sport mirrors that are like on chevelles

Ya i've loved them for a loooong time. Actually bought this from a member on here Justin from driverzinc... Going to go home and hopefully put a stock grill on it tonight. Had to remove the inner fenders last night as well was sick of being carefull around corners. I now have full turning capability!

Just about that long, 73-87 but the front end changed in 81? I think thats the right year they started the new front.

I love the stock 86-87 grilles too. I would put a tailgate band on it and call it done appearance wise.

I picked one up but I didnt relize its for a 73-80 truck, I will just spend the 600$ to get a brand new one so I dont have to restore one. But yes one of those is in the works!

Matt,
The front has 3" DJM spindles with 2" DJM coils (minus a half coil!), the rear has a 5" DJM flip kit with 3" drop leafs (don't remember what manufacturer).

Thought it was '80, but you may be correct. I'm pretty sure '81-'82 were the only years with marker lights in the bumper, so it would make sense that the body style changed in '81.

Our trucks sit about the same then, I have 2.5" spindles, 2" coils with a half coil taken off, a 6" flip in the rear and 2" drop shackles.

My rear tires are 2"s taller then the front so its still raked... Front tires are 26"s tall and the rears are 28"s tall.

Looks good Matt. I like the stock grill better for sure. Does your truck have a sway bar on the front? Mine didn't but I added a Bell Tech one and it was a HUGE improvement. So much nicer to drive, I couldn't believe it. I should've installed it before I took it on the Power Tour! lol

Funny my son (a huge truck fan) and I were curious what the truck would look like with the stock grill and discussing it while viewing this last evening.... The later pic here is certainly our preference and I just wanted to say what a nice job you did on this truck,,,, just an absolute stunner congratulations.... :twothumbs

71RS, That thing is sweet! I Love that look just as much as the trucks slammed over some 20s-22s. I though about getting another one and doing something similar to that. One I dont have to worry to much about when going over pot holes! Looks really good man!

Thanks Albert, I too am happy with my decision. I like it so much better then the grille before.

Thanks for the props Matt. My wife thinks I'm nuts because I have a 07 Duramax Crew that's all loaded up and I barely drive it except for towing duty. I would rather drive my 86 it's got a/c,cruise,pw,pl, and tilt so why not? She just rolls her eyes and shakes her head.

Missed this thread. Ya gotta love the squares man. My dad and I both have the 88-98 style trucks but I have liked the Squares for a LONG time. I think if I could, I would definitely have three Chevy trucks in my collection when I retire. A 68, my 93 (or dad's 90) and and 87. Can't beat a cool truck.

Looking good bro. For the record, 73-80 was round eyes. 81-87 Square eyes. The odd man out being the 80 Silverado with the rounded fenderlines but single large square lights.

Haha, they arn't done yet, wont be untill sometime in decemeber. And then, its just the rears I need to get my brake kit on and center the front wheels before I order the fronts.

However, I went with the Rushforth Concept I wheel. With the brushed finish and the raised section on the spokes polished. Same finish as this Concept I. http://www.rushforthwheels.com/gallery_photos/0000/0446/Concept1_4.jpg

Everyone's truck looks great. I've always liked these trucks. I often wonder what an extended cab version would have looked like if they had made one. Still prefer the long bed versions just like with the 67-72 trucks. I'm going to have to build a truck one of these days.
