I'm in the market for an upgrade from Baer Track 13" to Baer 6P 13" on the front of my 1977 Camaro. Whislt surfing for info I came across this on an A body site.

As some of you know I drive a Porsche 996 C2 and love the braking and handling. What better way to upgrade the Camaro than installing brakes from the mark I love so much.

The question is how hard will this be to do and will it fit 17" TTII's?

Oh and before you tell me I have the Porsche and the Camaro with Baer's, get the jack and socket set out. I'm only asking before I mess up and end up with two cars off the road!

He's using Audi rotors with Porsche calipers...

That's a photo from Andy Finkbeiner's car. He developed a set-up to adapt Viper calipers to the Mopars. The Porsche / Mercedes rotor is slick.

The difficulty is in finding a suitable rotor for the swap, otherwise it's just a matter of designing and machining a radial mount for the caliper which isn't too bad usually. Since you mentioned wanting to run the TTII's which are notoriously terrible for fitting large, multi-piston, fixed mount calipers, you'll need a very deep offset rotor like either the Audi piece mentioned above or maybe something like the 2000 Mercedes S500 rotor. You need to remachine the wheel pattern to match your application, but it should come close to fitting inside the wheel...maybe.

We've done some similar kits with Viper calipers (axial mount) on the Mercedes rotor with good results.

im doing a similar swap but using 6 pot porsche cayenne calipers front and 4 pot evo VIII brembos in the rear, those are brembos. Im looking into using the wilwood 6 pot rotors, but you will for sure need to run a spacer

oh and those are brembos, brembo has just recently designed rotors to be used with brembo calipers for 1st gen and 2nd gen camaros. What master and booster are you going to be using? the most fab work is wheel fitment and caliper bracket fabrication.

I thought that "StopTech" calipers were Porsche units that they converted to fit 4th Gen Camaros. I had heard that whenI was looking for brakes for the 96 SS. I may be wrong on this. I remembering them having a clearance sale because there weren't enough sales due to Baer coming out with their 6S and with Kore fitting the Z06 brakes to the Camaros.

Man that second rotor looks thick!

What's the big deal about having a Porsche caliper? It's no better than other decent caliper designs...

Stoptech makes their own pieces. They look similar, sure... But Porsche calipers are made by Brembo and Stoptech is a competitor. Stoptech has a patented bridge design that lends to them being one of the stiffest calipers on the market.

For some budget builders like myself who cant shell out more than 2500 for a big brake kit, you can easily find some used Brembo Calipers from a junkyard for 500 bucks a pair. From my own experience doing mountain touge I like the stopping power of brembos.

Makes sense. That's cheap for a caliper like that.
