I'm installing a used Street & Performance Multiport fuel injection system in my GM crate motor (ZZ3) that has a roller cam. The distributor that came with the fuel injection system is the small one with an external coil ( #1103952). My question is the distributor gear compatable with the roller cam. I've read where you can't use a steel gear with a roller cam. Please advise and thanks in advance for your response to my question!

Call the GM dealer and order the melonized factory distributor gear for Lg/LT roller motors, 10456413.
They are about $30-$40 also if it came with fuel pump lobe and you use a fuel pump you will need a bronze tipped fuel pump rod

Measure your distributor shaft diameter, the 10456413 fits a .461" dia shaft, earlier distributors used a larger shaft. Yours is probably the small, but I wanted to put this info in the thread for others to consider if it comes up in a search.

Some hydraulic roller cams have a cast iron distributor gear which is compatable with a stock distributor gear.

I used a Comp hyd roller cam which has the cast iron gear with my big cap TPI distributor and when I pulled the dist a few years later the gear had no unusual wear. I'm not sure what material the stock GM TPI distributors have or if the earlier big cap dist have gears of differant material than the small cap versions have.

GM roller cam equipt cars run mellonized gears. had several of them, change gear about every 100k just for good measure, cheap insurance for $35-$40.
