Honda seats

I'm looking for a set of lightweight seats to put in my second generation Trans Am. While dinking around I came across a set of seat for a CRX. Anybody ever use these? They look small and light, bolsters are fairly aggressive. I want manual seats, no power anything.

I had to go look them up. Yep, those might work as well. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who's ridden any distance in either of these seats. I'd like to go as comfortable as I can without having the weight. Seems like some of these style OEM seats would work.

I don't have any experience with CRX seats, but I can tell you the SRT-4 seats are very comfortable and supportive. I've ridden in the passenger seat for a few hours. I would be very happy with them.

I always get compliments on my WRX seats. I'm not sure how light they are, but they can't be that heavy. They have a lot of side support and will definitely "hug" you.

ive ran crx seats on track days and autocrosses, they are probably one of the best sport compact seats ive ever sat in, with plenty of bolstering, and they look nice, but i wouldnt spend too much money on them. they are the best free seats ive ever had.
if you are spending money, im sure you can find a better option.

but they are soft enough to be a daily driver seat, as they have been relocated into my daily civic and are super comfortable.

I have RX-7 seats in mine, they do well.

Chris 10 years ago I put a set of Mitsubishi conquest seats in my other 77. The hard part was making the mounts because of the crazy floor shape. Your 74 should be a little easier to work with.

Thanks, Dave. I'm starting to think my old horse collar seats aren't that bad. They seem to keep me in place pretty well. I also have considered some Solstice/Sky takeouts. I drove from Arkansas to Chicago and back and then again from Arkansas to North Carolina and back in the wife's GXP. I have to say they were pretty comfortable on the long haul.

I just bought some WRX seats for my 74 Firebird. I am 6'4" and I am going to have to mount them pretty low for them to work for me, but they are nice and have a lot of lateral support. Firm, but not too firm.

I think I am going to use one inch square wall tubing and grind off the factory brackets for the WRX seats. Then I will bolt the seats straight to the tubing and the tubing to the floor. I am going to have to see where that will leave me with factory mounting points for the rear of the seat. The WRX sliders are probably an inch wider on either side as compared to the Firebird. For the rear, I think I am going to go with a console that flows all the way to the back and cut the lower cushion of the rear seat in two and have the upholstery modified. For the price (about 250 from LKQ) I got the whole setup and couldn't be happier.

Hey Chris, I bought some seats out of a Hyundai Tiburon at the Pick & pull between Jacksonville & Cabot. Paid $30 for both seats in fair condition (they do need to be recovered). They are manual seats & have great adjustments on it. You might keep checking the local yards for something similar. Check the seats out on my thread in the project updates forum...

Going back to the WRX seats that I have, I set them in and after cutting the brackets off of the seats, it looks like the distance between the front and rear mounting holes in both the car and the WRX seat sliders match up perfectly, so some straight 1 inch square tube will be mounted to the seat sliders and then bolted to the car. Now I just need to figure out how thick the tubing wall needs to be. Anybody know? I want them to be relatively strong.

I've got a CRX and I don't think the seats are that great. However, I did pick up some Supra seats for use in my Challenger. Unlike the CRX seats, they have multiple lumbar bladders that are manual pump, so they don't weigh a ton, adjustable side bolsters, adjustable thigh support, and tip/tilt adjustable. Yes, they do weigh a bit more than CRX seats, but do weigh less thana modern power unit and are an all around better seat. You can still find them in pick and pull yards for cheap. My set was $50 for the pair.

Just an update to say the Pontiac is staying all Pontiac. I found a set of Fiero seats in pretty good shape at the pick and pull (I was listening, Brad). Very light and comfortable. I know about comfortable since my DD is a 1988 Fiero. Once they're re-covered and installed I'll post up.
