Has anyone put an integrated garage door opener in their car? Something like whats found in BMW's and other higher end cars. We just got one of those new-fangled automatic garage doors and I personally dont like having the remote on my visor. I'm hoping the unit is just some kind of circuit board and IR remote that can be easily transplanted into the headliner or something. My infiniti has this feature, but the buttons dont really fit the "look" I'm going for. Anyone done this? Or have some idea of a good donor car to look for at the scrap yard?

I added Homelink to my Harley... I dont remember what year the unit came from but it was from a visor. Make sure it does ROLLING CODES.... It it just a board with a power connector. What I did was solder leads to the existing switches and used my own switch an led... I then filled the case with epoxy to seal it... but be careful which one you use if you do this. The suff I picked is still sticky...

Look on eBay/Craigslist for homelink rearview mirrors. I swaped out one in my 97 GTP several years ago and I love it. DIfferent version to pick from too. Some have compass. Others have outside temp. Some just have home link. Mine has buttons for three different devices. For me was a pretty easy change since there was already power near by for my map lights and sun roof.

Also, my wife's F-150 has the same thing built into her drivers side visor. Just roam the junk yards in your area and I'm sure you'll find something.

After some more research, heres what Ive come up with-
I really like the way the Audi TT homelink looks, but The switches are separate from the actual remote, and the Audi remote is $$$. So Ill probably use the same cuircuit board as Rich since they are all over ebay for pretty cheap.
Heres what the Audi buttons look like:

I personally think they look too bulky, and the rear view mirror on a vette mounts to the windshield frame, not the windshield- so there would be a hole in the trim where the mirror should be.
I think the audi buttons will look very sleek mounted in the t-top bar.

Get one out of a visor on some of the Ford cars and trucks, There small and come complete. I have used them in some of are Custom interiors in the headliners.

If you're looking for something unique, what I've done in the past is to "re-route" the transmitter button into your cars lighter (providing you don't ever use the lighter in your car as a cigarette lighter). If you want to open your garage door, you simply push in your lighter which "copies" your garage door opener button. In this case you just hide the actual opener under the dash somewhere, tie up enough extra wire so it's easy to replace the battery if it goes bad. Easy and cool all at the same time.
