View Full Version : Door Lock Install Kits

Modo Innovations

Modo Innovations has developed a new kit for installing aftermarket door locks in the 67-69 Camaro/Firebirds.

Why an install kit?
Normally, aftermarket actuators include rods that must be bent by the installer and clamps to attach these rods to the lock plunger rods. The first issue is the clamps, they made of aluminum or some sort of pot metal and not very thick so it is easy to strip out the threads when tightening the set screws to attach the rods. Over time the clamps can become loose and cause your power door locks not to operate correctly or stop operating altogether. If the rods are not bent or attached in the right place they can affect the way the plunger feels, making it hard to lock or unlock by hand. Mounting the actuators can be a headache as well. Will they clear the door panel once installed, will they be out of the way of moving widow mechanisms and will I be able to put both screws in to the door or will I have to use the strap?

Included in each kit are powder coated steel brackets, fixture formed 304 stainless steel rods, rod clips, hardware, detailed instructions and drill templates. One kit is available for the 67 Camaro/Firebird and one kit for the 68-69 Camaro/Firebird and 69-72 Nova.

The drill templates locate the mounting hardware for the brackets. The mounting hardware is hidden behind the door panels. The brackets are manufactured so that they place the actuator out of the way of all the internal moving window mechanisms. The brackets also place the actuator in the proper alignment with the latch. The kit utilizes the unused hole in the door latch as the hook up point for the supplied fixture formed actuator rods. One end of the rod is manufactured to fit into the actuator and the other for the rod clip. (there is a driver’s and a passenger’s side rod and clip) The rod clips snap into this unused hole, then the rod into the clip. With a ¼ twist of the clip, it snaps over the rod to secure it into place

The price for the kit is $69 + $14 shipping
To order call 940-391-9002

The kits are the same parts only the drill templates are different.

very nice kit

Thanks, I have been working on this for some time. I even made a custom set of brake dies for the bends. I tested the bracket with and without the gussets and the built in gusset makes the bracket super strong.

they will fit 68-74 nova's too right?

I don't know why they wouldn't. I would have to get my hands on a junk door to make sure they would. The templates would probably have to be re-worked.

I've used this kit, and was very impressed. It made a disagreeable fabrication job into a simple hour's work.

Highly recommended.

I don't have a Camaro, but that looks like a nice kit at a reasonable price! Is this something you are now going to branch out and make for other model vehicles?

Ok so dumb question of the day... This kit is to be used in conjunction with an aftermarket power door look kit correct?

In my case, I used it with an Electric Life (aftermarket) door lock kit.

Thanks John I just wanted to be sure. Yet another thing to add to my ever expanding list of things to do.

I wanted to release this with a new keyless entry system. My supplier had some delays for the keyless entry, the new release date for the keyless entry will be later this month.

This kit will work with any keyless entry system that uses MES actuators. I have a dwg. that I made that I will put up later for those who don't have the MES actuators and want to use this kit. The dwg. shows the dimensions of the mounting holes and the length of travel for the actuator.

Yes, I used junk doors because I wanted to cut into them to make sure everything would clear and have a clear view of the hook up.

We will see what is desired and go from there.

Thanks.

2nd Gen Camaro next?!?! :)

This one is the clear winner for next on the list as for now.

Here is the DWG I spoke of in an earlier post, for those who don't have the MES actuators. These are the measurements that are key in making other actuators work for this install kit.

Count me in on a 2nd gen kit. I just have to check my actuaries to make sure the measurements are right.

I got this in an email from a customer today about this new product and wanted to share it.

"I installed the locks in the door using your brackets, and I've got to say that was the easiest thing I have done on my car yet. I couldn't be happier with them."

Mark

Thanks again for all who have purchased our products.

I will have to get doors for both of these to make sure that everything will work and do revisions if need be.

Does this kit still retain the door lock knob or is it deleted?

With this kit you hook the supplied actuator rod to the opposite side of the latch. This leaves the door lock knob and factory rod untouched for this install. By using this install kit you can delete the door lock knob altogether if you want to and still have electric door locks.

Any updates on the 2nd gen pieces?

I have been very busy and haven't had time to track down any doors. I have had a chance to do some research though. It seems GM changed part numbers on the latches some were in the mid 70's. What was the reason for the change? I don't know for sure, but I have seen some differences in the point where I plan on attaching the rod. I don't know at this point if it makes a difference or not. This is were the doors/latches will be needed to be checked and verified.
Thanks for keeping me in line and focused.

If you are close to Denton, TX there is a junk yard called CTC Auto Ranch that may have some old beat up doors. If you let them, they will walk all over you with price. I can usually walk out of there at half of their original asking price.

I know the place well. I talked to them about several donor parts and have even bought some from them. They do have alot of cars there. They are a little on the pricey side, but if you need it, you need it.

Got a question, does your electric trunk lock work with your key-less entry fobs? I.e. can you pop the trunk open with the key fob?

Thanks!

Santa brought me the kit for christmas ;)

The templates are worth 9/10ths of the price but the entire kit is exceptional fit and finish. For once bolt in actually means bolt in!!

Yes, you can operate the trunk latch with the key fob. You will need another relay to do this and the relay comes with detailed wiring instructions so it makes the wiring a breeze.

The 68, 69 and 70-72 doors are all different. I am still researching all the differences in these years. The 64-67, I haven't even looked at yet.

Just an update for everyone. We now offer the actuators by themselves if you want to purchase them with these install kits. I have had several requests from those who are using the ISIS system.

The actuators are $18 each.

I too would buy one or a 69 GM A-body. I get tired of reaching over and unlocking the passenger side door. Well just unlocking the doors manually in general.
