Here is my Car and I (the pose is a joke) in my tandum basement garage. It's crowded where the car goes, but there is a ton of room for parts and tools.

Unfortunately, a basement garage is not ideal for toxic fumes, or pulling a lowered car in and out of the driveway....

Here are my BEST garage/shop pictures of my shop behind my home and in-house garages.

ALL Waterfront Property!

Ultimately had 4 FEET of water in the shop.

The picture with the stairs goes down to my 7 car basement garage. That garage only had 8 feet of water in it. As a reference, look at the picture without water to see that the water was up to the top of the garage door openings. Look at the row of "Soldier Bricks" (vertical bricks) in each picture for a reference for the water level.

The 3 car garage at the other end of the house only had 2 feet of water in it.

The third picture is out the front door of the house.

Water front property 1300 feet from the river!!!

I am near Brookside, south of The Plaza.

A lot of old houses near downtown (like us, and sounds like them) have basement garages. I have no idea how people got their model T's up and down my driveway grade...

Hey Jimmy nice pic is that a wood burning stove. Cool, I like the wagon.

thanks. Yup it is a wood stove, you know I'm too cheap to buy propane to heat that place in the winter!! Lol. Actually, for a $100 stove, it works pretty well, but I did load it up with hedge once and it warped the sides out!
I wish it had a bit more space to actually be able to work on two at once, right now, I can barely fit both in. But I can't complain much cause I am trilled to even have it! Nice lift in your BTW!

I had this garage added on to my house last summer. The garage door facing the camera is the new garage.

I currently have the Camaro on the hoist waiting for the transmission to be rebuilt. We left with the Camaro for the Hot Rod Power Tour and the transmission broke about 3 1/2 hours out. My neighbor brought me the Boxster on his trailer and took my car back to the garage. We did the Long Haul in the Boxster.

If anyone is interested, I set up a blog about our Power Tour experience: http://jerryforthofer.wordpress.com/2010-power-tour/

Right-click the picture and choose Properties to get the URL directly to the image. Then you just put it within {IMG}url here{/IMG} (but you use the square brackets rather than curly)

Thanks for the compliments Stephen...The wheels are Boze Alloys "injected"....
The house(also a project) was built in 1940, I've only had it for 2 yrs...The car has been MUCH longer...So the car comes first, then the house...A man has to have his priorities :)

It should be against the forum rules to post up a picture of a car this awesome without a link to the build thread in the poster's signature. If there is no build thread, that should break another forum rule. This car looks amazing. I would love to see more about it.

Brian and Stephan,

I have only just got the car in my shed. I bought it about 3 months ago( a long 3 months wait for it to arrive) from this site so not really any build thread on it as i have not done anything to it yet. Im not sure if it was built at the shop you said Brian but i bought it from a guy in Colorado, not sure if that helps. I wont be doing much to it until the new year, i have a few other projects i need to get out of the way first(not car related). Thanks for the kind words.

There was. I had a '68 427/435 H.P. Corvette coupe that we just sold. It was a low milage original paint car that just sat in the garage. I've put 4 times as many miles on the blue Chevelle so far this year as I did in the six years I owned the Vette. You have to be able to drive 'em. That's why we have gotten so into the pro-touring theme. Only have one car without overdrive and our Camaro is getting a TKO or T-56 in a few weeks.

Dear God no! Might as well not even drink it if that was the case. I'm super picky with wine glasses, thats from my set of "garage Ridele"

I've actually recently repurposed a desktop PC from the house so I have a bunch more computing power. Now I can watch the HD movies off the server in the house. Not too sure how many times I've listened to Wild Hogs out there.....

Those benches both fold down against the wall. The brackets are good for 440 lbs/pair. One bench has two, the other four. Great for my tiny shop when I'm pulling motors or anything where I need extra room.

Folded down:

Good man, I saw what looked like a red tint in the bottom of the glass but I guess it's a reflection from the toolbox or something. I made the mistake of taking a crystal wine glass that was a wedding gift into the garage one time and, of course, bumped it and broke it. Oops!
My garage is right by my family room, right by the cable jack...I'm liking this TV in the garage during football season idea!

When a realtor asked me once what I was looking for, I said I wanted a large garage with a small attached house.
I told my realtor I wanted a bedroom, big kitchen and a bigger garage. When reality struck I got the bedroom, but I also got a small kitchen and an even smaller garage. They did throw in a few extra rooms for free though too.. LOL

If my company doesn't go on strike next summer, I'm going to look into attaching a 20' x 28' addition onto the currrent garage. That should keep me satisfied for a while.

Wes,
What kind of truck is that over behind door number two?

1970 Ford F-100. I've built the chassis (2x4) from scratch with a Mustang II up front. Ya, I know, but that was prior to me finding this place. Triangulated 4 link out back. Its getting a fully aluminum 4.6 4V with a pair of turbos. It was my first vehicle.

An older pic mocking up the 5.4 3V that I'm no longer using:

For all the people getting disgouraged or intimidated....

I built the Camaro completely in the left garage, later I was able to buy the right one where now the Nova lives (or will have to come to live)

No lights, no power, no water.... a small generator when I need power or battery LED work light when it's too dark. Painting the walls and ceiling white makes a big difference with the outside light reflecting.

I want to put in a steel beam and take out most of the wall to make it 1 bigger space and maybe put in an epoxy (level) floor.....but that's for the future:fingersx:

I mean seriously, where do you keep your 3 spare motors, 7 sets of wheels/tires, 2 full interiors, 2 extra pairs of seats, 3 spare fenders and 2 hoods, extra sets of intakes, carbs, headers, cams, ECUs, throttlebodies, exhaust & turbo piping, coolant hoses and turbo couplers, etc., etc., etc.? Floor-to-ceiling industrial shelving. There is a place here in Houston that specializes in selling used shelving acquired from various companies. The shelves I bought came from a Home Depot, they still had the item price stickers on them. LOL. That entire back wall of shelves only cost me about $600.

That's essentially what I'm doing right now with one side of my garage, except that I'm using the cheap-o 12" or 18" deep metal shelving. And since I only have 8.5 foot ceilings, and the wall has 2 windows and the fuse box and sprinkler controls, I won't get quite the storage you have. Still, I think once it's all sorted, organized, and compartmentalized, it should hold most of what I have (right now). Here's the floor plan I'm working towards (made in photohsop):

It's armstrong VCT tile. Cost was about 500.00 I placed it myself. Got it from home depot. Black was a special order.

It does mark up a bit with working in the garage, but I like the retro look. The improvements in the garage make it so much nicer to work in. Especialy the floor and the extra lighting.

A lot of incredible places, in here. I'm fortunate enough to have a good family friend who builds engine's for a living and is kind enough to let me use his shop. I can't wait until I can afford my own place one day.

It's 3 bays, 1 lift and a ton of space. I can't seem to find a full pic of it. IIRC the shorter side of the shop s 50x60 and the larger section is 40x60. Full bathroom, office upstairs etc.

Nothing fancy but it gives me somewhere to work. Hopefully we can sell the wife's camaro this spring and I'll get the whole shop to myself. I'm hoping to build an addition onto the shop this spring. I plan on knocking down the existing shed which is attached to the back and putting in a cement pad. I'll then redo the shed and knock a hole through into the shop and I'll move all my tools into the addition.

wmhjr you are always uping me. I mean your car's way nicer than mine and now you gotta show you have a way bigger car lift than me. Well take this!
I kinda like the view of my garage from this angle.

Rockeytopper,

You got me there! I live in the country but don't have those beautiful ponds next to me.

But beware, I DO have a small plane (Cessna 150g) and will have some similar pics before long.....

Or maybe I'll just visit your shop. It looks like I could land right behind that woodline. :)

Great idea for keeping them ready to use, and dust free inside... Thanks for the idea.

I definitely dig that air-tool storage shelf. I'll bet if you built several of those, people would buy them up.

+1 That would go well w/ the compressor closet I just built.

This is my favorite garage shot.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif

It is a picture that is about 5 years old, taken at my Grandfather's garage, when we were trying to get my late uncle's T-bucket running on the mechanical injection. It didn't go so well, I figured out what was going on as I was taking everything off the intake to convert to EFI, it was the barrel valve.
In the background is my Grandfather's '71 Chev pick-up that he, my late uncle Larry and I all built together. It still looks pretty much the same externally as in this picture, but now has EFI, that is a combination of '83 Corvette Crossfire intake, '94 Chev truck ECM and will have a 4L60E in it this spring.

This is my garage, and my current project.

I knew clicking on this thread would make me depressed...

I just have a 2 car attached, but I'm so thankful that I have that. Up until about 5 months ago, it was in the street or nothing. Actually the whole engine/trans swap was done in a gravel driveway with plywood to lay on.

I'll try to get some better pictures up later.

Just got my garage finnished and final inspection last Monday. Right now a couple of plugs and just enough electric to pass code. I'll install more as I go. The wife get to use half sense she is the one that pushed me to build it so it would be ready for my cars home coming.
Here's a few pictures.

Nice looking garage! How do you like the metal walls? Is there a difference in the noise level with the metal? I just built a 30x54 pole building and am not sure on how to finish the inside of it. Is it expensive to do compared to drywall(doing it myself)? What did you use for lighting?

Thanks for the info! It's greatly appreciated!

Do not use drywall if the inside of the building is going to be constantly going above and below freezing (dewpoint) drywall is not an outdoor product it will eventually go punky and bubble and look like h ell....use plywood or chipboard. D

They do make an exterior grade drywall (used in the commercial industries).

But i would go with plywood or chipboard also, you can hang stuff anywere.

Ususally by code when you have a shared wall with the house a fire rated drywall must be used on that wall.

This is true. Always check your state and local building codes, and get all required permits. Permits can be a pain, but they are in place to make sure the job is done right and to ultimatly protect the home owner.

Wish I had some better photos, but sadly I don't. Not recent anyway. This is of the car being worked on, but you get the idea. Basically a matching size awning on the front help double the space for working on stuff. Rain or shine lol

+1^ on that statement. I just added a covered parking area on the front of my shop. Only regret was I should have done it before I started my build. I wouldn't have spent so much time in the dirt working on those humid 100 deg plus days down here in Texas were the conditions inside the shop are unbareable.

Well, I had gone on a trip to texas for a week or two when I was younger, and at the time I had a 67 fastback. My old man decided he would put the frame rails in while I was gone to surprise me. We had a heat wave of 100+ degrees that whole time lol. As soon as I got home he looked at me and said, I ordered an awning. Lesson learned on that one.

I like the metal walls, I haven't noticed any noise increase. Its easier to keep clean than drywall, I can wipe or hose it down if something gets on the walls. We purchased the metal ourselves and it was more expensive than drywall or plywood but I think it looks better. It was a little harder to handle just because of the size of the sheets but it wasn't to bad. What are you going to do for heat? We went with heat in the floor and so far its working great

You have to pardon the construction pics, but we will be moving in June and the house is still full of wreckage from building. Concrete is not poured yet. Parade of Homes model.
