Anyone done any comparisons with 2.02 camel humps and vortec heads? My car is running vortecs now with a prof products airgap copy, I may have a chance to pic up a set of camel humps for free. Guy says there the "good" ones but I don't have any casting # yet.
Opinions?

No first hand experience here but I have read over and over how the Vortecs are far superior to even the best camel hump era heads.

I'm doing some google'ing and thats what everyone says. Hoping to find someone that has swapped out a set of 2.02 camels for a set of vortecs to see what the real world differences are. Hate to rely on the internet experts.

In my experience in stock form the vortecs are better but in ported form the double humps are better. double humps are a much thicker casting and can be opened up substantially more than the vortecs.
A good friend of mine had a worked set of DHs and went to worked vortecs and it killed the motor so he put the DHs back on. Both sets were taken as far as possible without welding or epoxy and done by the same porter so that was not an issue.

'though i have heard a few bad things about porting vortecs. basically that if you don't know EXACTLY what you're doing you kill power. IIRC there's a "bump" in the intake that creates the actual "vortex"/swirl and that many people grind it off making it a regular head with low flow.
but you can also get the larger GMPP vortec heads instead of the small stockers.

i think a lot of people that think that the camel humps are better simply because they flow more air or make more peak horsepower need to look at the bigger picture.
the vortecs are more efficient over a broader rpm range, and require less timing and octane to get the job done.
i've never had a set of camel backs, but i did have a 10:1 355 with vortec heads in my 71 Nova that made tons of power from idle to well past 6000 rpm and ran happily on 89 octane gas with 34 degrees of total timing.
