This is the pictures of my Girl when I bought her in Germany. I will post the pictures of the rebuild and suspension upgrades through the build. The body Work is being done at Indy Powder Coating in Indianapolis. It is just south of the Indianapolis 500 track on Main Street, across the street from Charlie Browns.
MMMMMMM PANCAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tear down was as expected. Every Step, More problems. This was a factory Vinyl top car, and there is rust problems around both the windshield and the rear window. Those fancy rear Quarter Extensions are filled with Expansion foam for strength. It just does not keep the water out.

Blown apart and media blasted the car is on the Rotisseri to inspect the underside. I think the problems are obvious. 40 years as a Race car have taken it's toll. I have purchased a complete floor instead of trying to patch each and every crack and cut.

Before you do this, Make sure you have supported the structure of the car. I have read listings where they had great problems installing the new floor. The problem is not the floor, it is that once the support is removed, (The old floor) the body tweaked, and then it is a big job getting everything lined back up again. You can see in these pictures the cross supports welded into place. They will be the last thing removed after the car comes off the rotisserie.

I worked for Uncle Sam and Lived in Wiesbaden Germany. Nice place. I spent time all over, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Norway, Cyprus, Scotland, Austria, Israel, Lebanon, Turkey, Morocco, and other parts of Africa. It was a good job, but not a lot of time to work on projects. You age in miles not years. Home was Germany, for what I was able to see of it. Being able to bring the car home was a perk. They would pay to ship home an American car, and this just happened to be American made.

Once the car was on the rotisserie it was plain to see that the person who had installed the rockers did not do any welding along the length of the bottom of the rockers. Once the new floor was installed, we spot welded the entire length of the rockers, and across the front and rear of the floor. If you place a weld at each drilled out weld you did on the removal will be adequate. Then you must clean and seal each weld. I am going to spray the entire floor with Spray On Bed Liner while the car is on the Rotisserie. This will make the job much easier, and once it is dry, I will be able to work under the car without getting completely nasty, like I would with normal spray undercoat. This will also seal the underside to any spray or road salt. I do live in Indiana after all. I don’t plan to drive it in the winter, but you never know. My MOTO is, I DON’T EVER WANT TO DO THIS AGAIN!!!

I have posted on a couple of pages. I wanted people to see what was required in a complete rebuild. I thought I had a really solid car to start with. Only having a few problems to be addressed, now I really have a solid car, with nothing to be addressed, except what paint I want to use. Even my beginning plan went out the window when I started to break the car down. I just have to remind myself that I would not have gone this far, I would have been chasing problems popping back up every other year or so.
I do not want to have to do this again. I should not have to. I am building a dependable car I can actually drive for years to come. It is actually a New 1967 Camaro.

I bet every guy who is looking for a first gen Camaro in Europe right now is kicking themselves that you stole one away from them.

When I bought this car it was in parts in the Race Teams garage, and the engine was all over the table. I bought the car for $650, and it came with the parts to build the engine, and a PAW catalogue. I took the car to the Auto Hobby shop where it slept while I built the engine and I Pulled the engine up to my Dorm room. That is where I kept it as I rebuilt it, during the day it set with a box over it, and a Table cloth with a Lamp, in between our Dorm Room Chairs. I can not tell you how many inspections I went through where they never even looked to see what was under that crazy square table. After it was finished I had to use a Refer Dolly to get it down from the fourth floor and across the parking lot to the Shop.
I bet it was the only engine built in a Fourth Floor Dorm at Lindsey As Germany.

Just wanted you to see what the old engine looked like before install.
The new one is a 383. I will post pictures when it is ready to go in.This is not going to be some trailer queen. I have designed it to be driven and enjoyed. It is a 1992 OPRM Chevy 4 bolt truck block,
I am building a street sleeper 383 for my 1967 Camaro.
Looks like a 350, runs like a Monster. Typical Economy type Grocery Getter.
If an engine is a sum of it’s parts, this is the parts.
The engine is a mild 383 (6.27 liter)
 (5.7 liter-350 cu in block, with 4.030 bore
and 3.750 in stroke)
 The Engine has 10-1 compression

My Painter has advised me that the Body Shop must move to a new location. They have other projects to finish before they can finish my car, and it may not get the color on it before they move. As it looks, it may be November or December before they can finish it. I just advised them to take their time and finish it right. I had to walk away from it setting on the dolly. I wasn't going to be able to finish it in time to drive this year any way. :(

Yeah, if you say "take your time and do it right" you won't see it for 10 years.

Never tell any shop to take their time. I have learned that with my boat. I told them once to take their time and half way through the summer it was still sitting their untouched.

The painter was laying out the black stripes on the fenders and the header pannel, which is why they are not shown here.
The red is actually darker than it shows here. The shop lamps and my Cheap camera do not do it justice.

The last of the pictures for now, Money being more of a factor than time, I am out for now. I will be bringing the car home for the winter. As money permits I will start working on the interior, the wiring, and in the spring, I am going to install the engine and transmission. This has been a real progress year. I just hope to keep it going.

Nice.....I guess you'll need to get it out in sunlight to show a good representation of the colour. A friend's red car is like that...every pic is a different colour.
I don't think I've ever seen a complete rear end hung like that for painting, lol.

Your car looks great! Would you mind telling me where you got that hood, and how it fit?

psy4s
10-24-2010, 05:04 PM
The hood is a Classic Industries 68 Yenko hood. The fit was ok, but a little high in the center. The painter actually built it up on the edges to compensate for this. It also had a few low spots that was able to be fixed when it was blocked. Nothing major.

As I was told All fiberglass hoods are not perfect. They all require finishing to make them look really good. I am very happy with the finished product. The painter who put in the very long hours making everything on my car like glass is really great at what he does.

It sure beats that steel reinforced fiberglass Cowl Induction hood it had when I purchased it. The thing weighed a ton, but did not need hood pins to keep closed. Since I had the pins anyway, I would not mind not having the steel frame. It was the first thing I sold off of the car when I got it home from Germany. I still have a factory SS hood with Louvers and a Repro SS hood still in the box if anyone wants them. Name your price for both, but you will have to pick them up.
