Hey all, need a little help. I searched but of course didn't find what I needed. Car is a 73 nova with a 350, I swapped in a T56 from a 97 Formula LT1 car. All I used is tranny and starter. I'm having issues with the starter.

The car will start and run fine if put 12v to the HEI but I can't find a wire that is key and start hot on the nova. There are 4 male plugs in the fuse box, 2 are key hot but not start hot and 2 are hot all the time so none will work.

I know there is a way to do it with a relay but I'm a wiring retard so can anyone help??

Thanks in advance

I guess I dont understand the question...is it the starter that won't turn the engine over? Is the Nova a factory stick car? Neutral safety switch bad? I believe the hot lead from the ignition switch goes straight to the starter (purple wire)...but I don't see why your existing wiring won't start the engine. You siad it starts if you put 12V right to the HEI...did you pull the entire stainless wire lead that went to your coil originally? It will be a cloth type yellow wire...the wire lead is stainless to give only 6V to the points to avoid burning them up-you should remove the whole wire lead from the firewall bulkhead and in it's place install a heavy gauge 10ga. lead from there to your HEI +12V terminal....hope some of this helps-Jabin.

I got it sorted, I ended up using the factory points wire, cutting it back to the fuse box and running it from there to switch a relay that runs 12v hot from the batt. Works like a charm.

Car would turn over but the coil wasn't getting power in the start position due to me not being able to find a wire that was hot in the on and start position.

She runs like a top and even shuts off with a key!!
