Ok, I'm about to start a fresh engine build. Just got a freshly machined block back from the machine shop. I know I now need to clean the block, but is it safe to wash down the block with Simple Green and water with the cam bearings already in place? I just see fresh bare metal and I can't help but think I shouldn't put water anywhere near there.

thoughts?

I normally leave the engine building to the more skilled than I, but why not coat internals with light film of engine oil. Especially if it is particularly humid in your area.

Yes, you can wash it with the cam bearings in place. Make sure you blow the block out well with an air hose to get the water out of all the nooks, crannies, bolt holes etc. Then as Gitter recommended a coating of something unless you're digging right in on the build this week.

Thanks guys, I definately coated the cylinders after hand cleaning them with ATF as recommended. I was just really more concerned about hosing down the block with soap and water with the cam bearing already in there.
