I've run across another 68 Firebird, I have three but each is different. Original OHC-6 Convertible, RA-V Resto-mod coupe, and Road Race car.

This other one I'm looking at is a Sprint 6 Convertible, but it has a modified OHC-6 Sprint Engine already, hotter cam, aluminum quad intake, headers. Since it's already modified and I have no desire to try a numbers matching resto on it I was thinking of a PT car but use the Sprint OHC-6. Should be able to get about 375-400 hp out of it with lots of torque, and having owned an OHC Bird I can vouch they're well balanced with that engine.
Not sure how many of you know about the Sprint 6 but it's also a cool looking engine.

But most F-body PT's I see are traditional V8's or LS conversions. Anyone ever seen one done with an inline 6?

Don't want it to look stupid, personally I think it'd turn a few heads and be rather unique.
I'd probably use the 17 or 18" Rally II's wheel Vintiques is coming out with, 8's front, 10's rear, lowered, mini tubbed, bigger brakes, and give it the usual suspension treatment. Maybe a 4 or 6 point cage with it being a rag top. Paint it midnight Blue, saddle tan interior and top.

Opinions?

I say go for it! Nothing against all the LS-powered PT cars out there, but it would be great to see something truly unique like that. Sounds like a great project.

I believe there was someone on here dropping the Trailblazer I6 with a turbo into a first gen camaro/bird. It was originally an inline 6 and they wanted to select a drive train that followed similar tradition.
In my opinion it was a really cool build. I always love builds that are a bit different.

I vote for the sixer.... Make a great sound when winding out..

I'd like to see an inline 6 road race car out of it. Would be interesting to see how it handled with all that weight pulled off the front. And if you could get 400 hp, why not?

Man I would do the 6cyl. I always wanted to build a GM turbo 6 just like the Toyota Supra. I was out riding in my deserts around my house and there is a complete one sitting under a couch. Those are rare and with a Fast EFI and a snail at it's side you could have a real unique sleeper. Heck maybe you could throw flames out the tail pipes. Plus get good MPG's. Do the 6 scrap the 8.. My 2 cents

A 6 would be bad ass do it now be unique and go for it. My dream has always been to drop a 326 pontiac with a twin turbo and a 6 speed.

When I built the Road Race car I built it around FIA 3.1 class rules which is 366 cu in max. But, we came close to building an OHC Sprint 6 I have for the 3.0 310 cu in class. Bored and stroked we could have gotten over 300 out of the Sprint 6
Main issue was cost, it would have been almost 3 times the 365 V8 I built to be a competitive engine. Still, it would have been really cool to race with that enigne.

I'm still talking with the guy about the Sprint Bird, he's asking a bit much considering how many mods I plan on doing to it.
Thanks for the input guys, I think it'd be a unique build for sure.

How bout a 2JZ? I know such a hybrid would cause some of the traditionalist to have a heart attack but the way I look at it, search for a JDM front clip. I have seen 2JZ clips for around $5K. Here is one now: http://www.jdm-online.com/jdm-engines/toyota-engines/2jz-series/jdm-toyota-supra-2jz-gtte-getrag-6speed-twin-turbo-engine-93-97.html

For that I get a forged crank, rods and pistons. DOHC, fuel injection, twin turbos, computer, wiring and a six speed tranny. Supras routinely make 500-RWHP without even taking the valve cover off. Very tough motor. Single turbo dyno queens make 600+. If you really want to cut cost, the 1JZ is virtually the same. It makes a little less power due to the smaller displacement but would cost less than 1/2 of the 2JZ.

If someone from Pro-Touring makes me a promise that they send pics after they install it, you can have it. Yes, turbo is the only answer. If not I am saving it for a 32 Ford pickup.

Only 75,000 miles and yes it is an HO. Z cam and 210HP. I have been through it three times and promised myself if I pulled it again it wouldn't be used. I put over 25,000 of those on myself. This is an oily motor. No matter what you do. I have done rockers, lifters, cam, rings, you name it. It just comes with the territory. Don't forget the most annoying lifter tick, tick, tick ever known to man.

Even the guys at Clifford recommended I NOT use it, so be prepared for the challenge. They told me this is the most expensive six you could ever dream of building.

I say use your six (it sounds bad ass from your description), but I am biased. It has great torque and sounds great when it winds out.

Post pics so the rest of us can see it.

If you were closer I'd take it.

Have you seen one in a 32 pick up? I have a magazine article somewhere where it was done.

The Tex Smith ford had it, but I can never find pictures of the truck.

The had a discussion of it on the h.a.m.b. board.
