Boys and girls. The Second Annual Motor State Challenge is just around the corner. Car counts are coming into focus:
CAR COUNTS:
BBQ/Cruise - June 18th: 75 Cars and counting have signed up for the BBQ/Cruise with more than 130 to 150 fellow pro touring gearheads expected. The Motor State people go so far as to have Fire trucks and police cars close off streets and direct traffic. So the cruise is more like a parade with emergency lights flashing and V8's rumbling.
Road Course - June 19th: Track Day at Gingerman Raceway has 60-65 participants PLUS 8-10 vendor entries.
Autocross - June 20th: Sunday's Autocross already has 50-55 cars signed up plus 8-10 vendor entries.
The Motor State Challenge is affordable and offers seemingly unlimited track time. If you are a spectator, expect to witness nothing less than the most amazing pro touring cars getting thrashed mercilessly all day and all weekend long.
There will be Time Trial competition consisting of lowest combined lap times from the Road Course Quick 16 plus the Sunday Autocross. All participants must complete the cruise and run on minimum 200 treadwear tires. Timing and Scoring as well as Safety scrutineering will be handled by the South Bend Region of the SCCA.
It does not matter if your car is done. Come on out and spectate or catch a ride on one of the cars.
It does not matter where you live. Participants will come from as far as Maine, Florida, and California.
It does not matter if you have 200 treadwear tires. Motor State has agreed to make special, separate "Exhibition" trophies just for the sub 200 TW entrants. You do not need to run out and buy tires.
Everyone is welcome to enjoy or participate in the 2nd Annual Motor State Challenge. Dates are June 18, 19, 20. Keep a lookout here for more details and updates.
We look forward to seeing you out there.
/Steve

So, If I have a new car with under 200 TW tires from the factory (I do, 180TW) I would only be able to run in exhibition?

I am coming out for sure on Saturday but am debating about whether I want to take a vacation day and come out on Friday for the cruise. Does anyone have spare room in their hotel room or want to split the cost on a room?
Steve Chryssos

The SA2010 standard has been delayed until October.
So we're still working on SA2005 plus two prior for autocross and track day (non wheel to wheel competition). That means SA2000 and SA95. Still, I want to get a 100% firm answer from our SCCA technical director.
Either way, your SA95 helmet can be turned upside down and used as a planter after October, so I encourage you to buy a new helmet.
If you need help picking a helmet, check out our site. Since deciphering helmet rules and featuresis a pain, we offer affordable, genuine Bell Helmets on our site that are perfect for occasional autocross and track day use.
We get a ton of questions, so we started offering helmets to make it easy for hot rodders to stay safe and legal.
TwistMachine.com Bell Helmet page (http://twistmachine.com/shopping/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7&products_id=38)
If you purchase by Wednesday, we can hand it off to you at the Motor State Challenge and save you shipping. Just measure the diameter of your head 1" above your eyebrows.

It's official. We're allowing SA95 and M95 helmets. This is the last year for 95 standard. Next year the minimum will be 2000 standard.

And hey, big thanks to everyone for signing up. Lets also give a big thanks to Bill Howell for starting all of this way back in 2005 with the original Run Thru The Hills.
The 2010 Motor State Challenge is probably the largest ever pro-touring performance driving event. I hope everyone has a real big time.

So you are allowing motorcycle helmets?
Steve Chryssos

Technically, yes. I don;t like them because they do not have any fire resistance. To the contrary, if you get caught in a fire, your M helmet will go up like a toasted marshmallow on the fourth of July.

Lane Automotive also sells helmets. I purchased mine last year from them. This would be a good way to support Lane Automotive for putting on such a great event.
