Good balance for 315 35 17

What would be a good balance for this size for the front?

Assume stock Sub frame..?

As far as balance goes, IMO, I think the rears and fronts should match as far as track width goes. If i could make it happen I would put 315/35's all the way around but for the time being I have 275/40's up front and am working on 315/35's for rear.

I agree 275/40s worked up front on 4th Gens and my C4.

Well with a stock sub prob 245/45/17. I have 235/45/17 since its a Nova.

When you say stock sub, are you also using stock control arms, or aftermarket? What will your ride height be?

Typically for our cars you'd want a 265mm or 275mm for that size of rear tire. Anything less than that is asking for some serious understeer.

Stock sub with ATS coil over conversion SPC uppers ATS tall spindles and Global west lowers.

What front spring rates, rear suspension setup (type, spring rates, bushing materials, rear sway bar and size)? Body mount material? Subframe connectors?

What is your front/rear distribution? How much does the vehicle weigh? If you don't have that information, what engine is in it? Plastic, Al, or cast iron manifold? Al or Cast Iron Heads? A/C or none? Power brakes? Transmission? Aluminum or brass radiator? Any carbon or fiberglass body components? Rear seat deleted? Will the stance have a rake to it?

What tire sidewall heights do you plan to run? What alignment settings are you shooting for? What tire pressures? Do you want oversteer or understeer and how much?

It's like when asking about what cam you should use. Just saying you have a Chevy smallblock is not enough to go on. There's more than 10 variables a qualified person would need to know before even making an educated guess.

My suspension setup, as an example, has a slight tendency to oversteer with the 245/45R17 and 275/40R17 tire combination. Going to the 315 rear would probably balance it out with a touch of understeer (which is what I want). Or I could add a larger sway bar, or stiffer springs, add more weight to the front (not gonna happen), reduce the static negative camber settings, you get the idea. If I just added a rear sway bar it'd really screw things up (crazy oversteer) and the larger width rear tire wouldn't compensate.

I think Matt's dead on with the width. Unfortunately you're a little hamstrung by the girth of the stock sub. So far, the largest I know to fit a '67-'68 with the stock sub is 275's. That required a little steering stop adjustment.

I also forgot to ask what year it was as well. The '69's can get away with a little extra tire due to the fender shape.

I have seen a few times where people have notched the sub to run a little extra width. Here's an example I remember running across on Camaros.net some time ago.

Thanks all... part of my reason for asking is to determine if I can get good balance with a stock sub... which I can obviously do if I go smaller in the rear.....

I may have to revisit my choices up front..
