Has anyone ever used a used car inspection service. I am considering trying one to buy a car in Lansing MI. I am in Pgh, PA. Let me know the good / bad and recommendations for Co's. I found a few via internet search, but prices vary widely.
Thanks,

i think you will be better off finding someone on this forum that lives close to that area and give him/her a couple bucks to give you a honest description.

I sold a car to a guy who used a "service". All they did was come out, look the car over, check the lights, brakes and if it started. DONE.

I buy stuff all the time sight unseen with success. The key is to have a question plan, ask DETAILED questions and don't take BS answers! Most sellers will tell you very little if you let them. Start at the front of the car and ask questions about every item to the back of the car. Pictures are a great help but most sellers send very few.
With paid liars, I mean inspectors, you get what you pay for. Expect to spend $250.00 or more for a good inspector. That's cheap to have a trained eye look at a car. It would cost you that much to look at most any car anywhere anyway so don't bitch about the expense. The inspector must provide you with detailed pictures of the car and a complete inspection report or over the telephone verbal report with email pictures. Inspectors fill the void for those who are UNWILLING to go look at a car personally.
As far as who is good? They all are good if you don't believe it just ask them!
That's why you should MAKE THE TIME to go look at the cars yourself!

Ditto on what everyone has said. Usually inspection companies don't do jack. There are some that are very good, but it's not the norm and they're few and far between.
