Just purusing Ebay and looking at all the "pro-touring" camaros. I found the ultimate rear suspension . . . leaf springs, coil-overs, cal-tracs and a sway bar ALL on the same car. No wonder the rear of the car is so high. LMAO. I think the ad said "The car will need some suspension tweaking and fine tuning, it has not been road tested." Wow, that is an understatement. Just had to post for your enjoyment. Sorry if this is your car . . .

Lol, I've seen mono leafs with air bags and even coil-overs before, but multi-leafs with cal-tracs and coil-overs is a whole new bag of WTF. Probably work decently for drag racing.

It looks like the tires are on the wrong way. Like they should switch the left side wheels with the right sides.

How can it be the "ultimate" rear suspension without air shocks?

Would coilovers and leaf springs work together if the coil was a soft spring, almost working as a helper spring. Say you wanted a 275 spring rate but your leafs were only say 150 would adding a 125 coil act the same as a 275 leafspring? just curious

you mean like using the leaf spring as the locating device for the rear axle and holding up the weight of the car, but using the coilover shock to fine tune things?
i'd think that would be a good way to get a fairly easy to adjust suspension setup without having to go thru the expense or hassle of putting in a 3 or 4 link suspension setup.
it has to be the ultimate rear suspension it says so right on the rear end!!
:lmao:
leafs, coilovers, cal tracs, sway bar :hammer:

not the worse if he takes the coils over off or just take the springs off the shocks. i have to admit this is a first for me.

Hahaha.. Saw those tires were on the wrong side too. First thing that looked odd. Other than that the car looks good. I dont care about the leaf spring and coilovers. There are alot of nice points on the car. Its at 12G today. Two days left. Id buy it for 16G for the giving. Id prolly go to 20G if I was in the mood for a 68 Maro. It is clean from the pics. Just needs some re-direction. Nice car. JR

The problem with relying on soft leafs for locating is that they wrap badly, which can be fixed with caltracs for acceleration, but they don't help braking, and the caltracs bind under non-linear loads(aka corners). So you have axle wrap under braking, a sudden hard link under acceleration and binding in corners. Then you have the potential disaster that is jacking weight off the leafs by cranking up the coil-overs too far, which will mean that the weight of the car is just sitting on the coil-overs till a certain amount of compression when weight hits the leafs which will cause a sudden stiffness both in acceleration and worse yet on just the outside on a corner, which is probably going to cause instant oversteer.
I didn't even notice the tires at first, lol, yes lets channel water to the center of a tire, that'll help.
Did anyone else notice the brake rotors, I've seen that shape on rotors, but never on one piece stock replacement style rotors, lol, another hack job?

The rotors are scalloped, and are two-piece best I can tell from the picts. It's amazing with all the suspension "work" on that car and no subframe connectors at all. While not a bad start, it needs some work done to it, including some undoing/redoing.

No, they come form the circle track world, and as Randy mentioned, they are 2 piece. Note the safety wired (safety wired!) bolts on the inner hat. I hope the coils are just "helpers"...I'm not sure how much load that crossmember (or the welds) is gonna take.

Forget the suspension... that's easy to change. WTH is up with that tail panel???

I have no idea what you guys are harping on, all he needs to do is get another cal trac link, mount it to the top of the pumpkin and the other end to the trans tunnel and loose the leafs and he has a nice cheap 3 link.

That's a nice single-shear mounting point for the coil over as well.

If you read the questions that people have been asking the seller, looks like the guy bought it to resell from someone else who got this far and but was unable to finish. Either way, there's a lot going on in the rear of that thing!

Axle tubes still need to be welded to the center section.

Thats awesome, maybe they just couldn't decide what they wanted to do. At least who ever buys it will have some spare parts to sell.

That reminds me of the Japanese full size Dodge van racing set up:

Soft leafs and Heavy springs may not work, but it could give you that last bit of adjustment you need with a heavy leaf. Always thought some less than heavy enough fiberglass leafs and this could let you actually tune the suspension. Mind you I thought I'd found coil over springs in the fifty pound range, but now I can't seem to find them again.
I always though cal tracs wouldn't bind (much) in corners, with the spring compressing, it's also pushing the axle back somewhat right? That's why under ride bars bind IIRC. But the top link of the cal trac pushes the bar back, which is the direction it needs to go anyways.
Mind you, it's unlikely everything has the right ratios to operate perfectly.
