So, I have a little '93 ranger project truck and was looking at some pre runner body parts. Front fenders and bed sides with a 4" flare/bulge.
What does everybody think about a lowered sport truck using those body panels to cover up big tires? My truck is standard cab short bed.
Here is what I'm talking about;

We've discussed it on other forums before, and besides the fact that their neither subtle or always the most atractive looking, they're very effective, and allow for a lot of flexibility in custom suspensions to increase track width with custom control arms. You wouldn't want to just use a huge offset or huge spacers, at least not for the front, as it would completely screw your scrub.

I think they may be overkill..i recall back in tha day they used mazda beds & fenders which are alil wider than stock ranger..but not buy much

I might look into the mazda stuff. It does seem a little wider, maybe and inch? I'll have to check around the ranger forums to see.
I found another company making 3" flares for the front fenders. Maybe I can get somebody to go a quick photoshop and see what it may look like in a lowered sport truck with nice billet wheels.

I think that would be sick on a PT truck. Check out the widebody thread for some inspiration. There is a killer S-10 Blazer.

Yea, I have been through that thread. I'm gonna try to bum a photoshop off of one of the guys around this forum. Maybe I can get a rendering done as I get a little more serious.

Those wheel openings are intended for large diameter tires, so I think would look pretty strange.

What effect does this have on everyday driving? I guess what I want to know is, is this something I will be able to notice? How does it effect handling? I don't think custom i beams are in the budget right now, although that may be something I do in the future.

Those wheel openings are intended for large diameter tires, which I think would look pretty funny.
True, good point. I completely overlooked that. See, that's why I started a thread. Two heads are better than one.

The biggest problem I see with that (as one who used to Race a Ranger in SCORE) is that the openings are not just flared out but are considerably taller as well, they were made to clear 35" or so tall tires with lots of wheel travel. I think you would have a hard time filling the wheel well and not ending up with a huge gap.

...and I'm only thinking about using a 25-27" tall tire depending on what I decide to go with in the end.

I would think that a 3" flare front and rear would look fine, as long as the truck is low enough and the track width matches. Why not run something like a 305x65x17 BFG All Terrain? I know it's not a "street tire", but it should stick pretty good. Comes out to 32.7", would look short-course like... And its load range "D", has a pretty stiff sidewall.
Just a thought.

Yea, that probably would look pretty aggressive. I am going to have to have a cheap rendering done to decide if it's the direction I'm going or not.
I may try to find out just how much bigger the wheel opening is than stock.

But they are glass fenders I believe so not to hard to adjust them to look right with the wheels and tires he wants.

Yes, fiberglass.

been playing in the dezert scene race/prerunner all my adult life.. There are a few companys that do make subtle fenders I was never a Ranger guy but have lots of friends that were.. Try Autofab For smaller glass Or talk to Perry's fab and fiber those guys are ford to there core.. You can Pull the rear bedsides on those if you wanna go really low and still have clearence with a wide tire...
Get on some sites Like DEZERTRANGERS.com Or Rangerstation.com
There's a Fab thread on Dez rangers that's really good but be preparred to be Flamed Hopefully you have thick skin because its Rough group I have been around there for years its all in good fun ... Just a warning though.. they like to talk smack!!!
I saw a Chevy one time at a show with glass all the way around but it was body dropped and layed flat on the ground on 26" wheels so a lot bigger tires then what your thinking
I am going to do some very subtle flaring of my stock nova fenders i did this along time ago and it looked cool....
Basically cut the outter lip of the fender about 20-30 places up about 3-4" start welding it'll take you a month between cooling time for the welds as much filling as you will have to do but the end result is cool sorry don't have any pictures that was like 10 years ago i did it last...
Good luck on your project!!

For a good explination of scrub, see this website. (http://www.hrsprings.com/technical/scrub_radius)
For just a short rundown though, it changes your steering drastically since the wheel and tire are pivoting around your spindle, instead of with it. It will increase steering difficulty as well as change how the tire reacts to lateral forces in a turn. It also changes camber curves because the wheel and tire are on a fulcrum from the spindle, generally increasing camber gain.
