I decided to get on here to get feed back on tires. I'm runnig a 67 Camaro with a 396. Lots of suspension work and all custom load ratings on the springs. I need a tire that will get sticky enough for 625hp and 585lbs of torque. I'm even putting my 69 Camaro up for sale to get into racing. Lots of work done to it. Its a 90% complete project. 396, Sag 4 speed, 12 bolt posi. All rebuilt and rust free. Needs minor body and paint. New suspension, steering, wireing, interior and so on.

Welcome! Do the tires need to be DOT or can you run slicks?

I don't think they need to be DOT but they do need to stick well. I really have no intention on driving on the street.

I run 28/11.5/15 goodyear eagle racing slicks on my 75 TA. Great tire.

Toyo R888 are decent but Looking into the Goodyear racing slicks would be a good idea. Wonder what the cost is and how long they last.

bought mine used for $200. Guy bought them and they were too small for his mini tubbed 69 Camaro. Normal price for a slick is $190 plus $50 for a tube. $15 for rim screws. Plus mount and balance.

The Goodyear Eagle RS is a track tire with DOT R designation if you ever wanted to be legal. Yokohama AO 48's are also a track tire with DOT R tag. The Yokos are also available in the MH compound which works well on our heavier (than imports) cars. I've had Yokohamas older AO32s and have been very happy with them. Just got a set of the AO 48's but haven't got them on yet, still running the 32s.

Thanks for the input. The GoodYears seem like a good inexpensive way to start off. I'm probably going to go through a few sets of different tires untill I learn how my car behaves on a track. This is a lot different then doing 200+mph in a straight line.

I am finding that out. I am converting to auto cross from drag racing.

Drag's are fun for the quick rush but I've been sitting on my car for 6 years and now finally have time to hit a road course. I just hope I dont break as many parts.

If you want to run the big pro-touring events then you need 200 treadwears to compete. I put a couple thousand miles and 6-8 races on R888's and was happy with them.

I still love to drag race but, so is a lot of people, I am tired of waiting over an hour to get a pass that last 11.5 seconds and get back in line to wait again. The road courses is more fun. A bunch of drag strips with corners. Auto cross is just a smaller version.

I'm going with the Toyo R888's. If I can get my car ready, I will be in the Spectre 341 Challenge
