Now time to tear the LT1 apart to remove & replace. I am shooting for getting it done in a night, not sure if I am going to try to do it tonight or tomorrow.

No, CC306 is existing cam. I have gotten tired of the surging while driving. Wide open is a blast, pulls hard to 6K & beyond. I bought one from Lloyd Elliott, 223/230 .565/.565 112 LSA. It has higher HP & torque numbers up to a tad over 6K where the 306 cam passes.

Don't rush- take the whole 3 day weekend if you need to. You know you'll see some other stuff you'll want to clean, paint, or fix while you've got it apart. Relax, do a good job, and don't be in a hurry!
(PS- Touch base with TPIS - they've got a slew of new LT1/LT4 stuff you'd probably be interested in!)

Other than the cam, what I want is to get my AC working. Now that summer heat is here.

Lol last time I put together an LT1 the guy "helping" forgot the water pump drive. That was a long time ago. Isn't there a gear or something behind the distributer that drives the water pump? For some reason I forget how that works and I can't picture it in my mind. But, from what I recall you kinda needed that.
Good luck with the new cam and if you can take your time. Nothing can make a good time like changing cams not fun like rushing and forgetting.

DOH! Yep, the gear on the front of the cam has teeth for the chain, & teeth of another gear that spins the waterpump. I took mine off & use a normal double row chain & put an electric motor on the water pump.

Scott do your self a favor and swap in a new melonized gear on the oil pump drive , I find they do need changed, it same as melonized gear for distributors running on factory rollers.
big tube of silicone, new thermostat/coolant, all gaskets. if its FI replace the injector orings while apart.

I'll look at the gears & put one on. In the mean time, I am having a h3ll of a time getting the damper hub off. Gave up for the night.

Got the damper hub off & get alot done, put the cam in, then went to put the cam sprocket on, & discovered the dowel pin is too short to drive the optispark. So I called cam company & he told me how to get the pin out, & he is goiing to mail another pin. What a pain in my behind.

I was thinking bout downsizing the cam in my lt1 also. mine is 230/230 .603 lift with the 1.6 rockers.
The surge isn't BAD but noticeable. Feels like it pulls good up to around 6500.

Existing cam is the comp cams 306, 230/244 .510/.540 with 1.5 rockers. Going to 223/230 .565/.565 with 1.6 rockers.

Got the new cam installed, started right up, but immediately idles at about 3K. Hopefully that is because the PCM is still tuned for the Comp cams 306 cam.
