Fuel Tank Vent

Can this be eliminated and the tubes on the tank capped off, then run a vented gas cap? I've noticed a few times that the plastic surge vent leaks if I fill the tank too much.

I plan on autocrossing and drag racing the car, I'd hate to leak any fuel during any hard G's from accel, corning, or braking.

I'm running an electric pump with return style regulator (carb) if that matters.

The problem could be if the vented cap doesn't allow enough air flow compared to the gas the motor is sucking. For my drag car it was reccommended to go 3/8 in place of the factory 5/16 for a vent line. We welded in a bung and vclosed off the hole for the factory line.

Any idea why there is two ports?

I was thinking of capping the smaller one, then running a hose up into the area above the axle and just putting a breather on the end.

Put a breather or fuel filter on the end so the dirt dobbers don't close it off! Had them do that to a tranny vent.

If memory serves me correct, John (II Much) Parson put an (aquarium) charcoal filter at the vent tube to stop the smell. I believe it is somewhere in the II Much built thread. Use the search function, I'm sure it will pop up.

Almost right. I use a vent/baffle (a liquid/vapor separator) and a small K&N filter. It works great: perfect venting for fill-ups, no sloshing gas on hard G maneuvers, and no gas smell in the garage.

I have 4 of the vent/baffles in stock right now.

With the filler neck and gas cap set up that Air Ride recently made for first gen 67/68- with the vent in the filler neck - any issues with your product with the vent tube here instead of the tank?

Although I realize mr. Alzheimer is starting to rear it's ugly head at our age (you're also in your late forties, right?), didn't you consider the charcoal filled aquarium canisters at some point?

I did talk about using activated charcoal, but I found the charcoal part wasn't needed. The K&N filter in conjunction with my vent/baffle took care of the problem.

Mike Norris offers the vents at various price points with different AN or brass fittings. You'll need to ask him for full "kit" prices. I can sell the bare vent for $129. PM me if you're interested.

can someone please clarify what exactly the white plastic "Y" piece is? Is it a plug to plug off the vent tubes, or is it some kind of check valve. thanks for the help.

FWIW, I connected a compact charcoal filter to the end of the vent tube (goes all the way into the engine compartment)
The filter was, believe it, off a Ducati motorcycle:. Got it cheap on ebay:

I am having vent problems right now with using the cap. I have Glenns performance sleeper tank in 67 camaro and was trying to vent through cap but ended not being enough and playing with my fuel psi. Also it started to run back out the 3/8" factory pickup tube. Glenn recommended taking the original pickup tube and cutting it nearly flush with the backside of the sending unit and using the factory pickup as the vent. Anyone think this will work and if so can I attached a filter onto the factory 3/8" pickup and it work or do i need to run a hose on it and then the filter. I am very interested in the charcoal deal. I have bad odor in garage from venting in summer also. Venting is very important in my setup fro fuel psi to stay correct because with turbos fuel psi dropping can be bad news in a hurry. Sorry not trying to highjack thread just figured while on topic i would ask. Thanks

I drilled a small hole in my gas cap. I went down thru the center of the rivet. So far so good. However it does not take care of the smell.
