Hi I am obsessing over this mod.. mostly because I am in the middle of installinf my new 1 piece floor.

So does anyone have a pic of a Gen 1 camaro with no bushings?
How much does it lower the stance?
How much does it effect the "road feel" ... too much for a car that gets allot of driving?

What kind of tunnel mods are required for a 6 speed (gto drop out drive train)

I am using ATS mounts and cross member.

Thanks for any help.

I don't know how big of a deal this is but if you are using a stock style steering box your steering column isn't going to line up right. I'm sure there is a workaround.

It'll drop the car about 1" over the stock bushings. Less if you have half-heights. Not worth it IMHO.

once you figure out a steering linkage, then you will have to figure out what to do for an air cleaner with the 1" lowered hood line.

It will also affect exhaust clearance to the body and your tunnel clearance with the 6 speed will be more difficult. Technically I believe the radiator supports are slightly shorter than the other mounts, so I'm not sure what affect that will have.

The six speed barely fits the tunnel at stock height on a 2gen camaro(not sure about how it works with a 1st gen)....I'd be prepared to refab the whole trans tunnel.

It actually works surprisingly well. I did it to my 67 about 25 years ago because I was too cheap to buy solid bushings. The inner fenders clear fine, as did the fan shroud. Loosen the column before and tighten after wards also worked fine. I had a cowl hood and had no problems with clearance there either. The problem is trans clearance. A muncie was no problem, but I put bushings back in mine to fit the T56. A 6 speed is pretty big and you will need all the space unless you plan on cutting.

If you have the room, it is a great way to lower and retain suspension travel.

Frank did it in Empty Nest, but everything was custom
i am right now doing it in a 72 Nova, with a LS and T56, the entire tunnel needs to be cut out and redone. the steering shaft and column will be an issue especially if your running the steering box. they will not reline up so you will need to remount the column to match up.

the other issue based on ride height will be the lower side of the hood hinges. as well as inner fender wells.

I don't have any pics that you will be able to see details in. Since in another thread you mentioned not having the floor in, I would wait for the article on the car Frank is building. He is raising the entire floor when it goes in by welding it higher to the rockers. I saw it a couple of months ago and thought it was perfect. It allows you bring the entire floor up a couple of inches, where it ought to be. It isn't a simple thing, but the advantages are many. Call him.

I am using Gen 1 camaro with no bushings. I will upload it so that you will see the effect of the road feel.

A extra inch is a huge difference...................yeah, yeah, yeah! I am refering to the subframe drop. To be able to lower the car a additional inch and NOT compromise suspension travel is awesome.

Every potential issue has been raised here, and yes it is worth it as long as you can cut your tunnel and as long as your intake is not to high.

We are doing the tunnel mods on Unfair today, it has to be raised 2" for our T56 because of no bushings and the installed height of the engine.

but even with a 10" tall blower, we still are only to the top of the cowl.

Project Prodigy has a 3" body channel, a 540CI with a tall single palne intake and 4 barrel TB and fits under the stinger hood.

The front STUB frame on Prodigy is raised 3" and the oil pan is not below the crossmember and still clears.

Noone has mentioned it but you don't have to lower it to put in solid mounts, it's just what everyone does when they do it.

You can put in some thicker ones and you will find out how it rides with solid mounts. Then if you want you can lower it.

Some people like them and others don't, you just have to decide for yourself. You can go to MetalExpress.com and have them cut you some aluminum round stock to the thickness you want and you are good to go. Then if you like the ride you can go with thiner ones when you are ready to tackle the other mods.

OK now I am confused... do you weld the floor in stock height then raise the tunnel? If so then I get it I am good if not do you weld the floor in higher? If so how do you make up the gaps in the toebards/fram rails...

Also if all of this is in the article I dont want to spoil anything... ....

However I did take the week after memorial day off to finish my floor..

Frank was talking about two different cars.

The new project with the raised floor is "Unfair". "Prodigy" is the car they built a couple of years ago, I think it had a conventionally channeled floor. That is it in the pics. The new car with the raised floor needs tunnel mods because it is using a t56 with no bushings and an engine setback.
