I just ordered the PTFB Competition suspension kit for my '79 firebird. I want to install it myself, but I'm a newbie mechanic. I spoke to Dave at PTFB, and he told me its straight bolt on install. He suggested I don't tighten the front bushings until I apply full load to each wheel. Thats the only tip he gave me. I believe have all the necessary tools, and the Chilton's repair manual.

Do any of you veteran mechanics have any tips, tricks, and or suggestions? Any write ups on this install? How badly can I screw this up? Would I be better off having it professionally installed? I bought this project car as a means to learn hands on auto mechanics. I am leaning towards doing it myself, unless I get talked out of it.

There is realistically nothing you can't do yourself, it's just dirty and time consuming. Make sure you read the bits about subframe bushings, they are the only thing that has the real potential to turn into a nightmare.

Plan on paying for a professional (NOT an oilchange place) wheel alignment when you are done with everything
