I would like a Ram Air Style hood for a 1978 Trans Am. I cannot find anyone that makes one. If you know somewhere that sells them, please let me know, if not, does anyone know who can make something like that.

Have you contacted VFN about doing it ? They have so many different styles of Pontiac hoods with scoops on them that you could have them make up something really original from a combination of several hoods .

VFN does custom fiberglass . It's not cheap but it will be a lot less labor for someone that already has the molds than from someone that has to work from scratch.

I would give a call to get a quote so that you will know what ballpark you can expect to play in .Finding out later that you could have gotten it for $900 instead of $1250 because of the labor time. You can even have it made from carbon fiber if you want. Talking about the weight you want it to be and any special hinge points / latch points and other details like final finish make a big difference in price. You could get just the basics and add the rest yourself.

With a custom hood you will still have a little work left to do no matter what so don't expect perfect , expect something that you can make perfect with a touch more labor than any good paint job would require.

It's also the beginning of the race season so they will be busy. I think it would be worth the wait myself. I have been to their shop and it is very impressive the different items that are being made and the processes to save time. They really do know what they are doing. Remember really good quality custom work takes time . The materials are the easy part so don't be conservative and not consider the carbon fiber from the start.
