Hey guys.. been swamped here with zero hour for the August issue.. gotta love deadlines :)

Finally got a chance to mess with the 68. Replaced the door latches and the door handels while I was at it. I was very impressed with how nice the insides of the doors were, virgin untouched sheet metal. You can tell the car has never spent much time in the weather. Gonna dynamat it in a month or so.

The car is a monster on the street. Took me a bit to get used to the reverse manual valve body TH400.. was trying to start off in third at first and to be honest the car had plenty of torque. Hitting second at a high RPM detaches your retinas due how hard it shifts. With the foam lined fuel cell the gas guage (i think) only reads the top ten gallons of the 16 gallon fuel cell. With the milage of the motor you can almost watch the fuel guage move tword E.. lol..

It is a handfull to drive. It is pretty close to a Pro-Street car with road race wheels. Love the car but there will be some changes.. hey, its a sickness and I can't help myself .. lol

First, If you remember my talk on here about converting a PS car to a PT car. Well this would be perfect for a little series on this. A T56, mess with the motor to make it more road course freindly, tweak the suspension a bit and show the differences that can be made for people that want to convert PS cars into a more road friendly PS car. I also want to hook up the oil cooler and accusump then run the Power Steering fluid through the existing trans cooler. The car will still be a beast but I think it will just a little more tame and LOT better for a road track. The brakes are great so I am not sure I will mess with them any unless I can score some of those new Baer 6 piston brakes. No AC, No heat and no radio is fine with me.. although the radio would be nice when the car is parked. Oh, and once I work out the motor deal I will go to the regular cowl induction hood.

You will notice the ducted front air dam is gone. I like the idea but not how it was executed. I am currently working on a new design that will not look so "riveted on" and will flow better. Maybe I will talk with tyler and come up with a product he can sell. Like I said, it's a great idea.

So without futher ado.. I present to you Penny.. as in Project Bad Penny :)

note: was gonna go with project Orange Crush but it seems to have been used a lot already.. still like it though..

Like I said, love the car and I look forward to messing with it. Some personal things came up that meant I might have to sell her but that is still up in the air and for now I gonna enjoy the moment :)

There are a few more pics on the website.. still have to redesign it with my friend Rob (Poltergeist)..

It's a very slim chance.. family reason :)

For now I will be optimistic and enjoy the ride.. should have a few drive along videos up in the next few days.

I guess I could use $1 bills to clean the rims.. could save me a few.. ;)

I just love the dish on the rims and this seemed to give it good idea of the scale.

See ya!

Steve,
The 68 is a really nice car. I am glad that you were able to end up with the car you really wanted.
Not everyone has the same needs. Fortunately we can custom tailor the cars to suit our needs. So we as enthusiasts end up with a diverse range of cars to enjoy and admire!
Thats what makes this hobby great.
I am anxious to see the mods that you have in store for the "Bad Penny"

Bad penny

Reminds me of the Lionel Richie song from years ago-"Penny Lover"
Except I bet it will be dollars not pennys it loves.

BTW what wheels are those again?

Steve, sell it? Are you crazy? You just bought the dam thing! I thought that was a typo and had to go back and reread it.

First, that color seems to be unique for a Camaro. It certainly set's it apart from many others. The hood in my opinion is totaly awesome. It seems to be the correct look with the size wheels you have on it. Plus, it also gives the car a very mean look. I agree with you on the air ducts in the front, good idea, it just needs a little R&D to make it flow with the rest of the car. You have to just love this thing. It is one outragous Camaro!

As you know, these are just my thoughts, to each his own. Good luck with the changes.

I'm glad you ditched those spoiler scoops, they took away from the level of quality that car consists of. The car is flat out awesome, I'd love to build something similar on the next go-round.

penny? Nah, its more bawler like 'fitty cent' haha

The selling thing is just a maybe.. but family comes first and I would do this before taking a loan on our mostly paid for house :) -- Lets focus on me keeping it..

Roger, I like the hood and I don't like it.. it is sorta distracting when you are in the car and looks more drag strip than road track..

Tony.. in person it really does look like a penny.. I am thinking of having an artist draw me up a cartoon.. a penny (like the coin type) instead of Abe Lincoln it would have a girl on it.. a bad girl with rolled up sleeves and attitude.. maybe a tatoo.. lol.. Instead of "in god we trust" on it there would be "in torque we trust".. I have a mental picture..

The air ducts will make a return.. just in a more refined form. I need to find someone with big slicks I can borrow and some front skinnies.. gotta give Tony some competition in the quarter mile ;)

Steve,

Great looking car. Overall does the car handle as well as you expected? I remember reading something about it being a tight handling car. Well good to hear you got it home in 1 piece. Look forward to seeing your updates!

Bad Penny is a waaaay better name. And the pin up girl idea is awesome. Make it: "In Torque We Thrust"

If you need someone to do the car-toon give this guy a try. He had done some GREAT work for a few of the guys on another site I go to. http://www.cartoon-it.com/ He can give you anything you want.

Great car too! It would stand out from the sea of first gen F bodies at any show. I love the black centers in the wheels.

Hey, Steve, what size wheels are on the '68? I saw in your VBGarage it says 11" and 12" widths, but what are the diameters?

When you are ready to dig deep into the suspension, please give me a call..... I'm right down the street in beautiful Carlsbad! In all seriousness, that is really a gorgeous car. I really can't wait to see it in person, and more importantly, to see it run.

Do you know what the track width on the rear axle is? I know that is an oddball question, but it would be interesting to know. I love the dish on those wheels as well, really nice.

The wheels are 18's.. 18x12 back and I was told 18x10 front but I think it is a little narrower (9"?).. 275's up front and 335's out back.

Mean 69.. I will let you know.. you have a shop or something? :) -- Ive been swampped with work so now maybe that I have some time I can jack up the back of the car.. pull the wheels and measure the rear axel width.. I bet it is a little narrower than a standard 12 bolt. Need to replace some of the metal heim joints with something urathane or delum.. too noisy. Not sure what I am gonna do with the front subframe and Mustang II set-up.. either maximize it for handling with that system or replace the whole deal. If I do that I will be pulling off the front sheet metal and smoothing the firewall.

Decisions.. It is down to only a 20% chance that I NEED to sell the car.. other things are being worked out.. so far so good and I just got done working on her in the garage :)

Damn.. that ad was supposed to pulled a LONG LONG time ago.. lol..

Penny is NOT for sale.. was going at one point but worked out the situation on the homefront and all is good as gold.

Maybe this is why I got a call from the guy at Ceasars Palace in Vegas.. he wanted to buy Penny to put in thier hot rod museum.. lol

I was stupid and didn't ask how much.. but the more I mess with the car the more I like it.
