I am building a 70 nova it originally had a vinyl top. I am painting the car black and I am wrestling with the idea of putting on a black top.

Any thoughts

Thanks

I think it depends on what you plan to do with the car.

If you plan to flip and make a profit, I'd say no top. I think most people prefer a painted top over a vinyl.

If its a car you are going to keep, and you like the vinyl, do the top. Always do what you like versus what the masses like for your own vehicle.

Personally, I dislike the vinyl tops. So that's my vote if your just wanting a pole to see what people are thinking.

My buddy has a vinyl top on his 68 Camaro, It make for a nice place to set a pin on hood:)

Vinyl is for kitchen floors. I vote no top!

I would normally say keep it but IMO with black paint the top looses it's contrast and appeal so I have to say no vinyl.

They usually hold in moisture, and cars with vinyl tops will tend to rust, especially around the front/rear windows.

Othe moisture thing, if the car is parked out in the weather then, yes, that's an issue. In a garage, not so much.

I know the rust issue is one that always comes up with vinyl tops. How about getting the Linex-Ultra shot on the part of the roof the top would be on? They claim the ultra has much better fade resistance than the original product and it looks pretty similar to a vinyl top. They even have a rejuvenator you can put on it in case it did fade. It would pretty much last forever and you wouldn't have to worry about the rust.
