Any ideas on tips/tricks on how to reproduce a fender flare thats currently fiberglass into steel?

You can kind of see the flares just taped on the car here:

Or by themselves here:

What I'd like to do is be able to cut the fender/quarter panel out behind the flares so that I could actually use them for a slightly wider wheel/tire.

Or does anyone have any ideas on how I could go about this while still using the fiberglass flares? How could I attach them to the body so they'd be solid?

Thanks,

They have some great bonding agents out there these days. It will help keep filler to a minimum.

You can replicate in steel but its a bit more than hammer and dolly work.

You might want to check this thread out over at the www.turbobuick.com (http://www.turbobuick.com) website.

It's about the GNX and some the things they did differently to make it GNX vs a Grand National, especially the Flares.

Check out the bottom of pg 2, you will see they made custom inner fender liners the clear the front tires, (the plastic ones inside the engine bay looked normal, but from the inner fender structure to the fender were totaly different, the factory part was cut out and removed and was replaced with these pieces)

On pg 4 3/4's of the way through you will see 2 photo diagrams on how the the fender wheel openings and the quarter wheel opnenings were trimmed up and reattached, and how the flares were mounted.

Both were done this way to get extra clearance for the wider tires, and eliminates the fender lip all together.

Hope this helps some....
