Looking to pickup a 1993 Mustang from a guy in Iowa. He is third owner. I ran a car fax and back in 1997 it had an got an salvage title. I asked the guy about it gave me a story about it being it from the front by orginal owner and they totaled it out. He said everything was realaced and the car drove straight. It doesnt run now, he is selling it as a roller. Should I be concerned? ****** said no frame damage. What about trying to insure it? I'm in Illinois.

A '93 Mustang roller with a salvage title? If he isn't basically giving it to you, I'd walk away.

My 2¢

Even trade for a Vortech blower.

depends on the car. i personally wouldn't be scared away by a slavage title as long as the car was properly repaired-unless i was looking to flip the car for a quick profit or something like that.

Oh, I agree 100%. I personally have no issues with Salvage Title cars. But a '93 Mustang that is a salvaged roller can't be worth much at all.

For a used Vortech? Depends on the model/trim of the Vortech but it would come down to if you like the car or not. Go look at the car with a fine tooth comb and make a decision.

I don't have any first hand experience with a Salvage title vehicle. Maybe give your insurance carrier a call to find out how hard it will be? I've heard a number of different stories, ranging from "it was easy to get full coverage", to only being able to get liability, to most companies not even willing to offer a policy for a previously salvage titled vehicle.

No frame damage on a uni-body car is not the same as no frame damage on a full frame car. With that car, the entire body is the frame.

Did the guy offer the information about the wreck? or did you have to mention it to him first? If the information wasn't offered, I'd be really suspect about the guys claims of everything fixed and the car driving straight.... since you can't drive the car. I know you can have a totalled car that doesn't have any real damage, and just a salvaged title does not mean the car is bad, but it would make me pass on it.

If you do trade for it. Look over the car very well and bring a friend and a tape measure at least. You do some rough measurements and check the car. you won't be able to tell if its truly straight, but a very unstraight car can be seen with a tape. it could at least save you from a disasterous trade.

As for what to do. I think good advice has been offered so far. Call your insurance and ask about coverage. Call the DMV and ask about getting the car on the road, and if they don't know, they should be able to point you in the right direction. But, if the car has been titled and back on the road since the accident, I don't think there is a lot to do. If it hasn't, I think you have some foot work ahead. the car will probably have to pass a full inspection.

I'd walk, there are plenty of mustangs around in better shape for next to nothing. I almost picked up a stripped fox roller for $200 a little while back.

I gave away two rollers last year, 98 GT salvage title and 95 clean title widebody convertible with only 25k miles ,why would you even trade ablower for a roller, you can find a clean running car for under 3k
