I have a fairlly small (4"x6") patch I need to do on my floor pan of my 88 monte carlo ss. The patch will be right over the frame rail..but also right over a fuel line. I have a donor pan im going to use as the patch. couple of question...

1) willi t be ok to just put a peice of metal over the fuel line to protect it from sparks..or should I take it completelly out (huge deal)

2) Should I spot weld in the panel..or should I weld the whole edge..then use seam sealer?

This is my first time welding in a patch panel...I can weld fine but never on the body of a car.

Covering the line will be fine, just be aware of the direction you're throwing your spark. Weld the edges solid in a spot weld format keeping at least 2" between spots welds to keep things cool. Once the welds are ground down and you have no cracks or holes, seam sealer isn't necessarily needed, but always a good insurance policy. Make sure you coat it with something.
